A Christmas Message

As we draw near to the end of another school year, our hearts turn once again to the wonder and joy of Christmas. It is a season that invites us to pause, reflect, and give thanks - not only for the learning, growth, and community we have shared at King’s College, but for the greatest gift we have ever received: Jesus Christ, God’s Son, given for the world.

In the midst of end-of-year celebrations, busy schedules, and family gatherings, we are reminded of the simple, yet profound truth found in Luke 2:11: “Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” This good news continues to bring hope, peace, and purpose to every generation, including the young people we have the privilege of teaching and nurturing each day.

As a College, we are grateful for the partnership we share with our families. Thank you for your support, your prayers, and your trust throughout the year. Together, we have seen students grow in faith, character, and understanding. We pray that this Christmas season allows you to rest, reconnect, and celebrate the blessings God has placed in your lives.

May the joy of Christ fill your homes, may His peace guard your hearts, and may His love guide you into the new year ahead.

On behalf of the staff and leadership of King’s College, I wish you and your family a very blessed Christmas and a safe, refreshing holiday break.

NAPLAN Results

As reported in the Herald Sun this week, we are delighted to share that King’s College has been recognised as achieving the highest NAPLAN results in the Warrnambool and surrounding area, with an average score of 592.6 in Senior School and 528.6 in Junior School. Below is a quote from the Herald Sun article:

Principal, Allister Rouse told the Herald Sun that the results were “unsurprising” as the students are extremely dedicated to their learning.“

The results are a reflection of some curriculum changes we have made recently with more direct and explicit teaching around literacy and numeracy, particularly introducing the ‘Promoting Literacy Development’ program in our junior school,” he said.“

It’s also the care and dedication of our teachers who go above and beyond to make sure that student learning is explicit, that students feel supported and cared for pastorally.”

King’s College Generative AI Policy

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tools such as ChatGPT, are becoming an everyday part of learning, work, and life. To ensure these technologies are used safely, ethically, and in ways that reflect our Christian values, King’s College has introduced a new Generative Artificial Intelligence Policy.

Why a Policy?

AI has great potential to enhance learning by supporting research, creativity, writing, and personalised learning. However, it also presents challenges, including privacy concerns, misinformation, academic integrity, and the risk of over-reliance. Our policy provides clear guidance for staff, students, and parents to help ensure AI is used responsibly and constructively.

A Christian Approach

As a Christ-centred school, we believe technology should be used with honesty, integrity, and care for others. The policy encourages students to use AI as a learning tool (not a shortcut) and to verify information, reference AI use, and uphold truth and fairness in all work produced.

What Students and Families Need to Know

  • AI may be used in learning when permitted by the teacher.
  • Student work must remain their own - drafts and processes must be visible.
  • Privacy and data protection remain a priority.
  • Assessments will clearly indicate when AI is permitted, limited, or not allowed.
  • Staff will receive ongoing training to ensure safe and current practice.

This policy helps our community embrace the benefits of new technologies while ensuring that our approach remains ethical, safe, and firmly grounded in Christian values.

The policy is available on the College website here.
