Performing Arts

What a wonderful year we’ve had in the world of Performing Arts!
I am super proud of all the brave students who have shared their talents at assembly, masses and at the Star Night! This is a direct reflection of the hard work carried out in Performing Arts classes, instrumental, vocal and drama lessons.
Congratulations everyone!
In Prep classes students were captivated by the story of ‘The Nutcracker’ by the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky 1892. The Nutcracker has become one of the most famous ballets in the world!
The Year 1 students enjoyed listening to the Celesta which is a small organ-like instrument which uses steel plates to create the high, tinkling sounds. The Celesta was featured in the ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,’ a beautiful and elegant dance showing the graceful, fairy-like movements.
The Grade 2’s enjoyed performing their role-plays, showing the next event which may result in the lamb following Mary to school in the song, ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb.’ Students worked very well in their groups and used whole body expression.
The Year 3 students have learnt Tempo terms all year in the warm-up and completed a Tempo Review on their devices. What impressive knowledge of the Italian terms!
The Year 4’s have shown a good knowledge of beat and rhythm especially when playing percussion instruments, both tuned and untuned. Students can play a multitude of instruments in unison which shows a high level of skill.
Year 5 students completed writing their 12-bar blues based on ideas which dampened their mood. Students recorded the chord progression using keyboards and guitars.
Great work!
The Year 6’s showed their skill playing chords and melody on keyboards and tuned percussion for the American traditional song, ‘When the Saints Come Marching In.’
Students enjoyed singing the lyrics to the AFL’s version!
Using both the right and left hand is challenging so well done and a great way to end a fabulous year!
