Italian

Foundation:

Buongiorno a tutti!

Foundation children are now working on new Italian vocabularies and new routine to start each Italian lesson.

Now that everyone remembers and can sing the “Buongiorno” song, we added days of the week and the weather of the day to our starting routine, all in Italian!

We read an Italian book about “Koko il koala” who takes a big trip around the World using different vehicles which, together with different games, is teaching Foundation students new Italian words.

Grade 1

Buongiorno a tutti!

Grade 1 children have just discovered that they learnt enough Italian words to be able to understand easy Italian books.

We read about “Koko il koala” entirely in Italian, everyone managed to follow and understand the story of this funny koala who took a big trip around the World using different vehicles.

After reading the book, we played different games and activities to discover and memorize as many Italian words as we can.

Now that we are familiar with vehicles in Italian, grade 1s are using their imagination to modify vehicles and invent something that nobody invented before; this activity helped us to review and practice some Italian grammar rules.

Grade 3 and 4

Buongiorno a tutti

Grade 3 and 4 students have been busy on learning new cultural information about Italian school, having the opportunity to learn about similarities and differences among the Italian and the Australian culture and to share they thoughts with their classmates.

We learnt about the comparison between people, places, subjects and routines between schools in Australia and Italy. Every student pretended to be the principal of their own school creating a map where they decided the best disposal for each building on it, a name, a logo, a uniform and a timetable to create the best school for its student.

This activity helped them to mix characteristics from Italian and Australian schools, review and learn new Italian vocabularies about schools and practice their Italian writing and talking skills.
