Principal's Message
Dear parents, carers, students, staff, and community members,
I hope this message finds you well, albeit under the shadow of the recent sad news about the passing of our dear colleague, Mr. Mofiz Ahmad. Mr. Ahmad served as our College Mental Health Practitioner and was an invaluable member of our wellbeing and college staff team. The loss has left a void in our hearts, and our thoughts and condolences go out to Mr. Ahmad's family and friends during this difficult time.
In light of this loss, we understand the importance of maintaining routines for children affected by grief. The school is committed to providing support to students who may be distressed. If you believe your child needs additional help, please do not hesitate to seek further assistance and referrals from health professionals such as your GP. Additional support resources are also included at the end of this newsletter for your convenience.
Moving forward, we recently held our first whole school assembly of the year in week two, with separate assemblies for junior and senior school due to our large student numbers. This was a strategic decision to assess the feasibility of conducting a Term Two assembly as an entire school. With some modifications, we are confident that we can make it work, and we appreciate the cooperation of all students who came together respectfully to celebrate the start of the year.
School Council Elections
School Council Elections are approaching, and we encourage parents/carers and staff to consider nominations. Information about the elections is available on Compass and the college website, or you can collect a nomination form from the school front office. The deadline for nomination forms is 4 pm on Monday, 4th March.
Year 12 camp
I had the pleasure of joining the Year 12 students during their camp at Lord Somers this week. It was a great opportunity for them to reflect on their priorities and goals for the year while forming new friendships. A heartfelt thank you to all the teachers and support staff who dedicated their time to support our students during the camp.
Year 7 Mini Athletics
Our Year 7 students have participated in a Mini Athletics Day to accommodate construction on our new classrooms. This event featured athletic activities not typically included in our regular college athletics day. The day albeit hot, was a great success and it was fantastic to see all students participate in such a positive and enthusiastic manner. Well done to our Year 10 Sport and Rec students who helped run all the events on the day.
Parent/carer, student and teacher conferences
Parent/carer, student, and teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday 6 and Friday 7 March. Bookings opened on Thursday, 22 February, and all interviews will be conducted online. Students will have independent learning days at home, with lesson plans and instructions posted on Compass. If supervision is required, please opt in through the Compass event.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN for Year 7 and 9 students is set to commence on Wednesday 13 March. All students are expected to attend and give their best effort, equipped with a fully charged laptop and headphones.
Athletics day
Regarding our annual athletics carnival scheduled for Tuesday 5 March, please be aware that the track replacement has caused a change in plans. We are working to secure an alternative venue and will provide further information as needed.
