What a fabulous start to the year in Physical Education and Sport!
District Swimming:
We congratulate the District Swimming Team who competed this week. We are sure they could sense you were cheering the team on from school; it certainly worked as St Cecilia’s came second in the aggregate award! This means, our school scored the second most points based on how many students we have in Years 3 to 6. Congratulations to Jake Reed who has qualified for the next Division round later this term. We can’t wait to hear how Jake goes at this event.
The months of training sessions were very worthwhile and we look forward to offering this again before next year's competition. All Years 2-5 students who are inspired by this year's team are encouraged to build their swimming up throughout the year!
Thank you to the parent helpers who have offered their assistance, particularly Liz Reed and Holly Grainger (Millie’s big sister!) for coaching the team. Mrs Galgani has done an amazing job yet again organising the team.
Running Club and Cross Country:
Later this term, Cross Country will become our focus as we prepare for the House event early next term. We will introduce Running Club on MONDAYS again for Years 3 to 6 before school in the lead up to our House Cross Country Event on April 23rd to be held at Nettleton Park. Stay tuned for more details and permission forms at the end of the term. In the meantime, you can practise running the course at Nettleton Park anytime you like - if you would like the map, please email Mrs Aldcroft.
Each week we follow a different program, designed to improve our longer distance running. We normally play a little game, however the focus is on running, pacing ourselves and challenging ourselves at longer intervals. Students who participate in Running Club are welcome to wear the specific t-shirt available for purchase from the office, or they can wear their PE uniform. They MUST change into their PE polo shirt following Running Club.
Parents must complete the attached permission form for EACH child participating in Running Club (not one per family) and this will be used to take the roll each week. Students must check their name off on the board in the hall upon arrival.
Running Club is open to Years 3 to 6 students and is held at school and on our boundary paths on a MONDAY morning this year. Arrival time is 7:50am for an 8:00am SHARP start. Please arrive on time to ensure the safety and smooth running of the sessions (pardon the pun!).
Please note: if the forecast is for heavy rain the session will be cancelled via Audiri email notification. Please check the weather forecast the night before and the morning of each session.
Years 3 to 6 PE lessons- Taekwondo and Self-Defense
Over the past few weeks, our awesome kids from Years 3 to 6 have been taking part in Taekwondo! They're still kicking and punching their way through classes, learning all sorts of cool moves and self-defense skills. Guess what? Some of them have even moved on to breaking boards! They're not just learning martial arts; they're learning about discipline, hard work, and believing in themselves. We're super proud of them and can't wait to see where their Taekwondo journey takes them next! Please see the attached flyer and flyer coming home which has a free offer for all St Cecilia’s students.
Foundation Classes and Perceptual Motor Program:
Our Foundation classes are embarking on their Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), an engaging initiative designed to enhance motor skills, coordination, and overall physical development.
Sessions have begun this week and will continue for the term. Students will navigate through various activities, laying the foundation for a lifelong appreciation of movement as well as strengthening their brain function through movement. Please feel free to read the information here in the attached presentation to learn a little more about the program. PMP Parent Presentation STC
Parents are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to help with the running of the sessions; sheets are on the windows of respective classrooms and we are requesting 4 or 5 parents per session! Please sign up as soon as possible!
After school sport at St Cecilia’s
There are many different sports played in our local area. If your child is interested in joining a club or team in any particular sport, or maybe after having a try at something in our PE lessons, please contact Mrs Aldcroft for a nearby club. Our PE program accesses local organisations for support, equipment and at times, coaching, so we have many contacts!
If your child is interested in participating in either tennis or netball, we are fortunate to have them both easily accessible to our students on site. Tennis lessons can be held during recess, lunch and after school; netball training sessions are held after school. Net Set Go for Year 2 students will begin soon, and is open for boys and girls to learn the skills needed to play this fun, inclusive team sport. Contact Mrs Aldcroft for more information on either of these opportunities.
Stay active, stay healthy!
