Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing News

Trish Star - Leader of Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care

Term 1 seems to be flying and we are already seeing students and staff engaged in a range of activities.

At our staff meeting this week staff engaged in a professional learning session on Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). PBL supports the shared mission of the Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga (CEDWW) in that the wellbeing of all students is at the heart of Catholic Education enabling a learning environment which provides for the spiritual, physical, emotional, cognitive and social growth of its students and staff. The implementation of PBL will involve a collaboration between staff, students and families. PBL  is a framework that brings together school communities to develop positive, safe, supportive learning cultures. It provides students, staff and the community with a structure that is enhanced by consistent, predictable, calm environments. We are in the early stages of establishing what this will look like at Marian but are very excited at the prospect of working to support our whole community and firmly establish what it really means to “Live the Marian Way”.

Today is International Women’s Day and a group of motivated Year 11 students participated in the Young Women’s Leadership Seminar. This year’s theme is Inspire Inclusion, and students  heard from keynote speaker Associate Professor Lisa Williams. Associate Professor Lisa Williams spoke with the students about her journey in research, what leadership means to her, and encouraged the students to set goals for their leadership journey. The questions of what type of leader will you be and how will you lead provided a personal challenge for the students. Following this they heard from a panel of female Members of Parliament about their journey to parliament and to perhaps inspire their own journeys. It was an informative session about changes being made and challenges faced by women in Parliament.

The remainder of term 1 looks to be busy with many academic and sporting activities. Remember to reach out to your child’s Pastoral Leader if you have concerns.

Thank you
