Wednesday the 21st of February – MGC Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday the 20th of February, the MGC 2024 Swim Carnival was held, and it was nothing short of an electrifying display of school and house spirit as well as athletic endeavour, with everyone who dressed up bringing the theme of neon to life in dazzling displays of fashion and fun. From the moment the buses arrived in the morning, and the students began flocking into MSAC, the sea of vibrant house colours and fluoro cheer grew, seeing for an amazing showcase across entire the day of glowing outfits and infectious energy.

This year the swim carnival also saw record-breaking levels of student participation, especially for the Year 12 cohort, with swimmers across all the years and all skill levels eager to take part in the festivities and jump in the pool. Whether girls were competing for glory in the pool, and a place in the next round of competition, or cheering on their peers from the sidelines, the sense of camaraderie was palpable across the entirety of the outdoor pool and stands.

The neon theme added an extra layer of excitement to the day, with both teachers and students alike embracing the opportunity to get creative with their costumes and accessories. From ’80s-inspired Zumba groups to fluorescent swimsuits, as well as traffic cones and tradies, it wasn't just the visual spectacle that made this year’s swim carnival a resounding success. The energy levels were off the charts, with girls of all ages cheering, clapping, singing, dancing and of course supporting their house with chants throughout the day. Whether it was a close race, a personal best, or simply a Taylor Swift song on the speakers, there was no shortage of reasons to celebrate at the MGC swim carnival.

To the students who participated in various swimming events, thank you for showcasing your talent, determination, and school spirit, your athletic efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we wish you the best of luck for the next rounds of competition.

I also want to extend my gratitude to the PE teachers and MGC staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organize and coordinate the swim carnival. Your hard work and dedication ensured that everything ran smoothly and allowed for everyone to enjoy a fun and exciting day of competition.

Once again, a massive thank you from me, and on behalf of the sports team, we are looking forward to our next big event which is the MGC athletics carnival in Week 1 of Term 2 and we all hope to see every one of you there, ready to showcase your athletic abilities, MGC spirit, and sportsmanship once again!

Thank you,

Esme Keen – 2024 Sports Captain.
