Principal's Report

Rohan Cooper

Welcome to our second newsletter of the year, as our students, staff and families continue to build positive routines in this return to school period. We have ‘hit the ground running’ with a variety of events complementing the outstanding learning that I am seeing occurring in our classrooms.

Our first two assemblies of the year have run smoothly, led by Miss McLeavy and our Year 6 Term Leaders. My messaging to our students to begin the year has been simple and critically important. I expect three non-negotiables from every student in our school:

  • Be on time.
  • Be in uniform.
  • Use your best manners.

Our classes begin promptly at 9:00am. I expect our students to line-up as soon as the first bell of the day rings at 8:55am. I expect our teachers to collect our students promptly at that time. I expect learning to begin at 9:00am.

We must wear our uniform with pride. I want our students to ‘walk a little taller’ when they don their navy blue and gold uniform each morning. The pride we have in our uniform and our school colours must reflect the high expectations we have for student behaviour both here and in the broader community.

Everyone can display outstanding manners. You can always let someone through a door first. Even better, you can open that door for them. It costs nothing to ask someone how their day has been, or to wish them well for their day ahead. ‘Please’ and ‘thank-you’ are non-negotiable.

Whilst this messaging has been strong to our students, I would like to reinforce this with our staff, families and broader community. My expectations of you are no different. Families, please ensure you have your children to school on time and in full school uniform. Staff, I expect you to model the high behavioural expectations we set with our students. And all of us have the capacity to model our best manners and act with kindness, respect and understanding at all times.

Yard Supervision

Please note that, as per our yard-duty supervision policy, our school yard is only supervised between 8:45am and 9:00am each morning, and 3:30pm to 3:45pm each afternoon. Do not send your child/ren to school unsupervised before 8:45am or leave them unsupervised in the yard after 3:45pm.

Students who are in the yard unsupervised before 8:45am in the mornings or after 3:45pm will be asked to come to the office until the beginning of the school day or to have a parent or carer called at the end of the day.

Traffic Safety

I have had multiple reports from our families of unsafe traffic behaviour at drop-off and pick-up times. Please obey all road rules and observe all signage around our school. Do not park across driveways or obscure the roads surrounding the school. Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our students. The onus is on all of us to be safe on our roads and around our school.

Year Level Coordinators

The learning and wellbeing that our staff deliver requires detailed planning and organisation. Our year level coordinators have been identified as teachers who not only deliver outstanding practice in their own classroom, but they can effectively lead others to ensure that outstanding practice is consistent across all classrooms in a year level. I would like to congratulate the following staff on their appointment as year level coordinators for this year and thank them for their hard work and dedication:
