Principal Review Survey

A standard process in Lutheran schools is for Principals to undertake a review, at regular intervals, during their appointment. The review process is aimed at affirming and enhancing the leadership capabilities of our Principal, Fiona McAuliffe, in the context of Lutheran education and our school. It seeks to provide feedback and insights to the Principal about the quality of leadership, as well as help to determine areas of further professional growth and improvement.

Early next week, a random selection of families will receive an email containing some more details and a link to an online survey. The survey, which opens on Monday 26 February and closes on Monday 11 March, is also being made available to staff and College Board members. We value your feedback and encourage your participation in the survey.

CCTV at Good News Lutheran College

Good News Lutheran College has an obligation to ensure the school environment is safe and secure and fulfil its duty of care to students, staff and visitors. In order to fulfil its obligations, the College uses a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system.

The CCTV system assists the College to fulfil these obligations and to prevent and manage other inappropriate behaviour on school grounds. CCTV also provides enhanced capability to protect our school’s assets against vandalism and theft.

For any questions or concerns regarding the use of the CCTV system at the College, please contact the College on 03 8742 9000.

Library Lovers Day

This week, we celebrate Library Lovers Day on 14 February. We used the opportunity to

seek feedback from our users about what they love about our libraries and what they like reading. The responses were very sweet, but also showed how much students value the library as a comfortable space to meet with friends and have their lunch on a hot day, as well as a reading space.

This is the time of year when we ask students to reset their reading goals for the year. Every class from Prep-Year 5 have a full period per fortnight allocated to reading for pleasure. Years 6-9 have a period every fortnight. This assists students to find and start a book, seek assistance from staff and listen to recommendations. The interest is demonstrated by the statistics - not of the loans, but of the renewals. I am very interested that students are engaged enough to read at their level and want to finish a book to the end. I am happy to say that most students are reading quality engaging content, challenging themselves and exploring different ideas. Making time to read is one of the most important things we sometimes miss when making reading goals. Building this into class time shows how much we value reading for pleasure as a life skill at GNLC.

All students are encouraged to read outside of school for about 15 minutes per day. The best time is in bed before sleeping. This is a great way to put the screen away and quieten the mind. Books are great for brain health and a wonderful natural sedative. Read on!
