Italian

Buongiorno e benvenuti to our Italian page.I hope you have all had a great start to the year.

The Prep children are enjoying their Italian time on a Tuesday. It is inspiring to see their smiles on the playground, some practicing their new Italian greetings. Buongiorno Signora or Ciao! They have learnt to say "Mi chiamo" and "Buongiorno!" We have commenced learning how to make the sign of the cross in Italian and are focusing on our prayer "Gesù Gesù." We will now move into engaging with the text "Ecco Pinocchio."

The One/Twos have been rehearsing and roleplaying their greetings and courtesies. They are mostly confident in which greeting to use at which time of day. They are practicing saying "Buongiorno, come stai," answering with a choice of three ways to respond then asking"E tu?" They have also been learning how to sing our new prayer "Caro Gesù."

The Three/Fours have been working with the theme "La famiglia." Through poetry and song, they are learning the names given to family members: mia mamma, mio papà, mio nonno, mia nonna, mio zio, mia zia, mio cugino, mia cugina... They are noticing that the masculine and feminine words have different endings.

The Five /Sixes have been constructing sentences using the sentence builder model. We are commencing the lesson with a quiz which revises vocabulary taught to date. They have learnt to write 2 sentences by choosing words that fit and then reading their sentence to their buddy and class. Some examples: Mi chiamo Willow e mi sento molto bene perché sono felice. Ho undici anni e ho unasorella. Si chiama Luisa e ha tre anni. Or Mi chiamo Anthony e mi sento molto male perché sono arrabbiato. Ho sette anni e ho unfratello. Si chiama Justin e ha diciassette anni.

I was so thrilled to have a student in Year 5 greet me last Tuesday morning on the playground and have a simple conversation with me in Italian using their two sentences.

Buonissima giornata
