Technology Excursion

Technology in Real Life Excursion

Students in Year 9 Computing Technology, Year 9 and 10 STEM and Year 11 SDD had a trip to Canberra to see how Technology is used in Real Life.

Students first went to the Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE) at Watson to see a different type of Coding language used in designing Games commercially. Students were taken through the Unity language where they were manipulating objects on the screen and making these objects do different tasks. By the end of the session, most were able to manipulate and code the objects proficiently. They were also given a tour of the campus to see what the AIE can offer as well what career paths they could look at. Many of the Animators for Marvel have trained through AIE.

We then went to Manuka Oval to see the IT systems behind the scenes at running a Sporting Event. Students were taken for a tour around the Stadium showing them the amount of Technology involved including the cabling and hardware required to manage the Stadium and how it was being set up for the AFL Preliminary game that evening. Such things as how they manipulate the Scoreboard and how the time keeping works was just a few of the students witnessed. Students could see the security behind the scenes as well as when the action started as we were able to get Free tickets to watch the GWS vs Suns game at the oval that night.

The following day, we visited GIO Stadium and looked at the technology there, which is more sophisticated, and how it is used to manage all aspects of the game as well as security and the advertising that occurs when running. The previous night, there had been a concert and some of the left-over equipment used was still in place. So, students could see what it would have looked like.

I would like to thank Mr Kroek for taking us to the venues and to the students who were wonderful examples of fantastic behaviour for Narrandera High School.

Thanks Ms Webber
