Learning In My Level
A celebration of what's happening across the school!
The Foundation students have had a jam-packed start to their schooling life. We quickly settled into classroom routines and have enjoyed discovering all of the exciting learning opportunities that school has to offer. We have enjoyed meeting our Level 5/6 buddies and engaging in some fun activities with them like playing in our brand new amazing Foundation playground and we are looking forward to the upcoming Schultüten ceremony.
Discovery
All Foundation classes take part in Discovery sessions three times each week. Through Discovery, students are given the opportunity to explore a wide range of learning opportunities based on interests and learning styles and are encouraged to develop their oral language, social skills, negotiation, decision-making and creativity, amongst other important life skills. Some highlights so far have been the opening of the four Discovery dramatic play areas in the Foundation corridor, the mud kitchen, setting up a variety of shops and home corners in classrooms, construction zones, using recycled materials at the Collage table and of course, trying new things! We look forward to what’s to come in Discovery in Term 2.
If you have any craft materials, recycled materials, dress ups, toys or other items that could be of use in our Discovery program, please speak to one of our Foundation teachers.
Literacy
We have begun our new program Little Learners Love Literacy, where Foundation students meet new characters when Milo monkey calls to invite them to his party. We have enjoyed learning new sounds and have begun identifying sounds in words and blending sounds together to spell words. A highlight so far has been our Pirate party for Peter penguin where students dressed up as either a pirate or a penguin and paraded for the Level 6 students. We shared a party lunch and played party games and other exciting activities.
Maths
Foundation students have been exposed to a variety of different concepts in Maths this term including learning about numbers, patterns, graphs, days of the week, months, seasons, counting and money. They have had the opportunity to engage in a variety of hands-on tasks. Check out our wonderful Maths learning below!
Inquiry
This term through our Community Inquiry unit, students have been learning about families, family structures and their similarities and differences. We are learning about community helpers. Classes have read a number of First Nations books relating to families, seasons and other significant dates. We have begun our Resilience Project lessons and have completed lots of fun Wellbeing activities.
We are looking forward to a fun-filled year with lots of exciting activities still to come.
