Physical Education

This has been a huge week for Physical Education at Weeden Heights. On Thursday 15 February, selected year 4-6 students went to district swimming and competed against other schools in their chosen swimming event.

We had fun together and everyone tried their hardest. We had students coming back with ribbons and notices to say they will be heading to division swimming.

At the end, they announced the overall ranking of each school. Weeden Heights came 1st in our district and 2nd overall. I am so proud of each of the students who participated, and I am looking forward to division. Well done Weeden Heights!

The Arts

In Performing Arts we have been learning some rhymes, and creating performances using our beautiful instruments.

Year 5/6 learned the song, Miss White Had a Fright, and played different ostinatis on percussion instruments and xylophones. Then they composed their own rhythmic ostinato, and played it for the class.

Year 3/4 learned the song, One Two Three, and practised keeping the beat while others were playing something different.

The Junior School (Prep/1/2) have been focussing on music literacy, reading and playing Ta, Ti-ti and Saa.

In Visual Art, all students have completed the cover for their Art Portfolio. We have all been working on a collaborative piece of art (no spoilers) to be displayed in the corridors soon. Each student has contributed their own special piece, and it's starting to look amazing!

French

  • Prep/Grade 1
The students have prepared the front pages of their notebooks. They have had a lot of fun when playing games to memorise French colours:
  • Year 2:
We have started studying the history of Notre-Dame Cathedral. The students did a complicated dot-to-dot activity to illustrate the front page of their notebooks but they all did an amazing job! We also watched a video about Notre-Dame. They had to fill in missing words from the video script, to understand the history of this famous Parisian landmark:
  • Grades 3/4 and 5/6:

The four grades have started the term with the same activity, to revise common verbs and the proper use of various articles to demonstrate that they can write full sentences independently. All students created their own card to describe who they are and what they like or dislike. Here are the beautiful cards of Marley, Ethan and Katherine:
