A letter from the Secretary to the Kiewa Valley community

The Annual General Meeting of the Upper Kiewa Regional Arts Group will be held on December 14th in the Settlers Tavern at 7 p.m. I hope that community members will come forward to form a new Committee and keep UKVRA viable.

Although UKVRA has a sound financial base, has recently renewed its affiliation with Regional Arts Victoria, with associated insurance coverage, and has assets including a Mac laptop, printer, EFTPOS subscription, glasses, banners and display materials, it is in need.

The current Committee is retiring at the Annual General Meeting in December. Already reduced to only 5 members due to resignations over the past year, three of the executive have given notice that they will not seek nomination at the AGM.

The Constitution specifies that there shall be a President, Vice-President Secretary and Treasurer, (the  Executive Officers of the Association) and seven ordinary members of the Committee. There is provision in the rules for co-option of members of the Association to the Committee.  What is needed is a new Committee.

We have 36 financial members in 2023, another 15 people were members in 2022 but did not re-join this year. In 2021 we had 62 financial members.

There have been four quite well-attended adult performances brought by UKVRA to Mount Beauty this year, and one for children. No performances are scheduled for 2024 at present, but it is anticipated that the St Kilda Film Festival will come again if asked. There are sufficient funds in the bank for at least one other performance in 2024.

UKVRA has provided support for the Arts in the Kiewa Valley for over 30 years, and currently auspices The Mount Beauty Writers Festival and the David Vigo Youth Music Scholarship to help those organisations by providing financial accounts, insurance, and the backing of an established Incorporated Organisation when applying for grants. In the past UKVRA assisted the establishment of the Mount Beauty Community Band and the Saturday Stitchers, now incorporated bodies in themselves. Federation Square in Mount Beauty was initiated by UKVRA which gained a grant for its construction in 2000 as well as providing a number of very affordable Performing Arts Show for the Kiewa Valley Community every year.

If you are able to help form a new Committee, please contact me:
