As we reach the end of an incredible year, it's time to reflect on the triumphs, challenges, and memorable moments from 2023 in PE and Sport. From swimming and cross country to interschool sports and Hoop Time… whether it has been skipping and athletics, lacrosse or gymnastics, badminton or volleyball, running club or table tennis - our students have demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and a commitment to giving everything a go!
This year has been nothing short of extraordinary in the sporting world of St Cecelia’s!
Congratulations to all our students who have worked tirelessly to excel in their chosen sports. Your dedication, discipline, and passion have not only brought pride to our school but have also inspired those around you. To have 60 certificates to hand out for Running Club and needing to book multiple lanes for swimming is proof of this!
As we bid farewell to this school year, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has played a role in making our physical education and sports programs successful. From the teachers who dedicate their time and expertise outside of the classroom to help run sports events and coach/manage teams, to the parents and supporters helping and cheering from the sidelines, your contributions have not gone unnoticed. Without the community of St Cecelia’s, our sporting events would not be able to happen. Your commitment to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle is instrumental in the wellbeing of our students.
A huge thankyou to everyone who made our Athletics Carnival last week such a wonderful success.
Congratulations to each participant for showcasing not only athletic prowess but also a remarkable sense of teamwork and enthusiasm. We thank the parents for their encouragement and the students for their exemplary behaviour and sportsmanship. An enormous thank you to the parents who helped with the events, marshalling and BBQ - without your help, the day couldn’t go ahead. Thank you for making the House Athletics Day a memorable highlight in our school year.
Special thanks to our PE teacher Mrs Katherine Aldcroft and Teresa Galgani who both put in countless hours of preparation for the day.
The students all expereinced a range of different events and enthusiastically cheered on their teammates and classmates. Perhaps the biggest cheer was when our surprise guest, Mr McKenna arrived. He tells me that next year he is looking forward to lining up for the Mustey Mile himself.
Congratulations also to Mackillop House for their victory on the day and to Jake and Michaela for remarkable performances in winning the Mustey Mile.
Mr Mooney

Cricket registrations are typically required before school starts, so if this interests you please go to the SSV website and make note in your diary of important dates.
As we turn to 2024, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and the potential for even greater achievements. Our commitment to fostering a culture of health, fitness, and sportsmanship remains our focus, and all the other achievements are bonuses!
Stay active over the holidays, and I can’t wait to hear of the adventures you have! Thank you for making 2023 such a wonderfully active and fun year!
Mrs Aldcroft
This week saw the culmination of an incredibly successful year for our school hooptime teams. Both the Senior All Star Boys Team and the Junior Future Stars Team played in the State Finals.
The senior boys played extremely well against some very tough (and very tall) opposition. The boys were close in a number of their games and fought every game out to the final siren.
The Junior Future Stars also showed great spirit and determination in their finals, making it all the way to the semi final before just falling short. They were very well coached by Sam, Tom and Alex, three of our Year 5/6 boys.
A huge, huge, huge thank you to Mrs Galgani who has put in a monumental effort to organise seven separate hooptime days this year due to the great success of a number of our teams. These days simply would not have happened without her!
