Week 7 greetings

There have been great vibes around the school at the moment, particularly on Wednesday this week when we had a book week parade. The weather was perfect and so many students dressed up as their favourite characters. I couldn’t remember when the last time the whole school came together for the book week parade but the feeling of being together as a whole school community was priceless, made me feel extremely proud to be a part of it. Also, with less than two weeks to go, the excitement for the school production is building up across the school. Rehearsals have been happening both inside and outside of the classrooms, in multiple locations of the playground from the morning to the afternoon. We cannot wait to showcase what our teachers and students have been working on over so many months! 

今週水曜日にブックパレードが行われ、全校生徒、職員一同とても楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。絶好の天気の下、さまざまな本のキャラクターに仮装した生徒たちをみながら、前回学校全員のメンバーと保護者の方々とブックパレードをしたのはいつだったか記憶を巡らせておりました。このように大勢で時間を共に過ごせることの喜び、そしてコーフィールド小学校の一員であることを改めて誇りに感じました。また、本番まで残り２週間を切り、生徒たちはスクールプロダクションの練習の終盤を迎えております。１日中校内の様々な場所でリハーサルに励む生徒たち。公演が待ち遠しいです！

Gateways Program

Last week, some of our students participated in the Gateways program which focused on Writing. Students learnt different technics used by the great authors such as Roald Dahl, J.K Rowling, etc to write lively and exciting stories. When I walked into the session, they were learning about alliteration and about to start creating the sentence and include as many alliterative words as possible in one sentence which must make sense.先週、数名の生徒がゲートウェイプログラムに参加し、さまざまなライティングのテクニックを勉強しました。ロールド・ダールや、JKローリングといった偉大な著者がどのように物語を面白くしていくのか、そのために必要なテクニックは何か、生徒たちは熱心に聞いていました。私がセッションを訪れた時には、alliterationという同じ音で始まる単語を繋げて書くテクニックについて勉強していました。

Snapshots from Our Classroom

Our Y3/4 teachers provided their students with another fun and purposeful learning experience this week. A well-designed learning program engaged our students with the geography unit in Inquiry lessons, reading and writing explanation texts in Literacy lessons. Students learnt in which geography condition rice grow and read the explanation texts about how sushi is made. After learning all these information, students made sushi in the classroom. Maybe they can treat you with home-made sushi over this weekend!?

３・４年生の教室では、地理の勉強と、説明文の読み書きをする勉強を繋げたトピックの学習が行われていました。過去数週間に渡り、生徒たちはお米が育つ地理条件を学んだり、お寿司がどのように作られるかという説明文を読む勉強をしていました。その締めくくりとして、今週は教室でかっぱ巻きを作りました。みんなとても一生懸命ですね！！
