REPRESENTATIVE SPORT

NSWPSSA Girls Football

Sophie A has returned from Nelson’s Bay after competing in the NSWPSSA Girls Football Championships. Not only did Sophie’s team finish the tournament in 3rd place but she was also named in the NSW squad. Sophie travels to Victoria in October to compete at the School Sport Australia Football Championships. An exciting time for Sophie A, we will all be cheering you on from Sydney.

School Sport Australia Touch Championships

Charli M had a great week away in Darwin as she represented our school in the NSW Girls Touch Football Team at the School Sport Australia Touch Championships. Charli and her team had finished as silver medalists! A fantastic result to finish off her journey through the Sydney Catholic Schools Sporting Pathways for Touch Football which commenced in Term 4 last year.

Conference 3 Athletics Championships

Congratulations to the 29 students who represented our school at the Conference 3 Athletic Trial last Wednesday the 9th of August. We were unable to announce final results and progressions in the last newsletter as they had not been released until now.

NSWCPS NETBALL CARNIVAL

Our students, teachers, umpires and parent managers had a very long and exhausting yet successful day at the NSWCPS Netball Carnival. This is an annual event endorsed by Catholic Schools NSW Sport and one event our school has participated in year after year. We had 8 teams entered overall on a very warm Winters day.

Thank you to St Pat’s College who provided us with 6 students to be our umpires for the day as well as Mrs Kendrigan’s daughter Ella. Without the help of our local community, these days would not be possible.

Our teachers highly enjoyed the day as we had an impressive 70 students participate. It was a bonus to have our Senior Girls 1 team and Junior Boys win their competition.

SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVE JERSEYS

With many of our larger sporting events wrapping up for Term 3 could all students who have borrowed a representative jersey or singlet please have it returned to the school office. Thank you to the many families who have already done so. Specifically any student who has one from the year 5 interschool oz-tag level 1 teams, cross country trials, conference 3 athletics trials and/or basketball gala days.

We will be doing a thorough stocktake of representative jerseys so we can order more for 2024. We are currently in the process of introducing a new method of jersey distributions for the future. This is to ensure all students representing our school at interschool sport and through the sporting pathways have their own jersey/singlet to wear.

INTERSCHOOL SPORT

Year 5 League Tag

Year 5 have now completed interschool sport for 2023. Our year 5 teachers and students have highly enjoyed their time on Tuesday afternoons at the Ridge Sporting Complex. A big thank you to De La Salle College Cronulla & Caringbah for providing fantastic secondary student referees. Without these volunteers, interschool sports would not be possible. Kate Miller also convened this event as has done many hours behind the scenes to make this inter school sporting event come to life. Mrs Miller highly enjoys seeing the familiar faces of St Pats students out on the sporting field.

Year 3 Oz-Tag Gala Day (compulsory for all students)

All students in year 3 will be participating in Sydney Catholic Schools League Tag Gala Day on September 12th, Week 9 of Term 3. There is a possibility this could also be changed to League Tag. All year 3 families would have received the details of this event via COMPASS this week. There is no payment for this event for 2023 as Sydney Catholic Schools have funded all buses. Please ensure you provide consent for your child. Based from the feedback from the year 4 soccer gala day in Term 3 it was agreed that this gala day would be a half day event. Our school will be participating in the AM session. Year 3 teachers will be forming teams for this gala day by keeping in mind students' experience in the sport while attempting to have a familiar friend in their team. Girls will be playing in a separate draw to the boys for this particular event.

BASKETBALL GALA DAYS

Thank you to all the parent managers who have assisted our teams at the multiple basketball gala days to date. One of our parent managers has sent through a match report from our year 5 girls team. What a great community of students we have here at St Pat’s. These girls should be very proud of themselves. Have a read below..

None of the girls had played before so we had a quick coaching session before it started. They all gave 100% through the day and really started to get the hang of it by the end! Although we lost every game, they never gave up, had a really positive attitude and we’re all super eager to get on the court. They supported each other and were inclusive of each other no matter what ability. It was a great display of sportsmanship.

Special mention for our only two scorers for the day- of our 20 points Jess T scored 14, and Elsie B scored 6

All in all it was a super fun day and the girls were a pleasure to coach!

Miss Sutherland also had many good reports from our Stage 2 girls Gala Day this week. Although not all games were in our favour, the St Patrick’s girls stayed true to themselves as they displayed great resilience and effort. Gala days are not about the wins but the quality of time you spend with your friends, developing a sense of team spirit, your ability to persist and celebrate even the small achievements. All teams developed throughout each game and have learnt a thing or two about the sport. This experience will encourage the girls to participate again next year.

Our year 3 boys will be our last year group to participate in the Sutherland Basketball Gala Day on Monday the 4th of September. For any year 3 families involved in this event, please ensure you have provided consent via COMPASS. Team managers will be sent emails shortly and the draw will be sent to all participating families who are coming along to spectate. The draw will become available about one week before the event. If enough representative jerseys are available, these will also be distributed to the boys.
