It’s shaping up to be a busy end to the year for the Vermont Secondary College Community Association with several fundraising events coming up, as well as planning in place for a new event that upgrades the Year 7 Picnic on the Deck to new heights in 2024.
Over coming weeks, we’ll be putting information up on Compass about the VSCCA Chocolate Drive. This year we’re aiming to raise $4000 towards the funds targeted for fitting out the new school gym when it’s completed. Keep in mind that although that still seems far off, the plan is for the new facility to have community access available. Helping with fundraising to fit out the gym will be a longer term investment not only in the school, but in Vermont.
In the past the Chocolate Drive had been made a compulsory fundraiser for various year levels, but this year we’re not putting that requirement in. You’ll be able to select from the range of products Cadbury Fundraising have on offer, including Cadbury Chocolate bar boxes, Freddos, Caramello Koalas (big and small), Oreo Cookies and Natural Confectionary Lollies. We’ll also have a Virtual Lolly Box for those that want to contribute to the fundraising, but don’t want to end up with a tempting box of treats.
If you’ve participated in Chocolate Fundraising before, one of the difficulties is sometimes getting the money back to the school at the end of the period. To help with simplifying that, we’ll be selling the boxes to families at the retail price – so you’ll pay the amount via Compass that covers the cost of the box to the VSCCA, plus the profit on the box, all when you order. That then leaves you to sell the box to friends and family to recoup your payment, which you then keep. Or you might just end up with a supply of tasty treats at home while you feel warm and fuzzy for supporting the Community Association’s fundraising efforts.
Chocolate orders are planned to be on Compass in the next few weeks, with an order being placed before the school holidays, and then we’ll keep the campaign open into Term 4 with another order being placed around Week 4.
The second activity at the end of Term 4 will be the Second Hand Uniform Sale. A few changes to the model the VSCCA has used for the sale in the past were agreed to at last night’s VSCCA meeting, and we’ll be announcing those in the next newsletter and on Compass closer to the date for the sale.
One other fundraising activity VSCCA has run for a few years now is also being planned again in Term 4. It will be announced once final details are confirmed after the holidays.
Plans are starting for a family event in March 2024 that will upgrade the Year 7 Picnic on the Deck held in recent years. The event will see food trucks, school bands and other activities run on the oval for families to socialise and interact in the new year. If you’re interested in helping organise this event, email vscca@vermontsc.vic.edu.au and they’ll put you in touch with the coordinating committee that will start working on the event in Term 4.
The VSCCA meet on the 3rd Wednesday each month but can vary the schedule when that will likely fall in the School Holidays. As such, the final two meetings for 2023 will be Wednesday October 18th at 7pm and Wednesday November 15th at 7pm in the Staff Room at VSC. Parents and community members are welcome to attend to either join the VSCCA (it’s now free!) or just hear what’s happening and talk with other parents.
