WAVERLEY DIVISION ATHLETICS

A team 160 strong journeyed their way to Knox Athletics Track for the Waverley Division Athletics. It was cold and windy day, but that didn’t stop the athletes from having a day filled with great successes across the track and the field. Vermont continued its reign as the premier school of the Waverley Division winning the overall shield, as well as the intermediate and junior shields. Vermont were narrow runners up in the senior shield. WAVERLEY DIVISION ROUND ROBINS

Year 7 Boys Soccer

On the 6th of August, the year 7 Vermont Boys soccer team progressed to regionals after a sensational day at Monash University (Clayton Campus).

Our 1st game was against Mount Waverley Secondary school, it was our toughest game. After an exciting half, the score was 0-0. At the start of the second half, we got a penalty, and our captain Valerio D took the shot, unfortunately he drove the ball just wide. We got another penalty after  chaos in the box, Sherlock H took the shot and put it in the right corner of the net. 1-0. Mount Waverley soon equalized after a penetrating pass in the box and we accidentally put the ball into our own goal. Mount Waverley took the chance and scored another goal and made it 2-1.

Fortunately, in a chaos in the box, Craig C equalized with a breathtaking volley. The game ended with the scores being 2-2.

Our 2nd game was against Highvale Secondary College, we started the game well with a goal scored by Craig C, a great through ball gave us our second goal scored by Valerio D.

The half ended after Craig C scoring another goal to make it 3-0. We scored another goal after a wonderful finish from Valerio. The game ended after Craig C scoring a wonderful goal to complete his hat trick. 5-0

Our 3rd game was against Glen Waverley Secondary College, we needed at least 3 goals to progress to regionals. Alvin scored the first goal of the game, everyone was doing their best, our second goal was scored by Jenson after a wonderful run. Half time 2-0. We started the second half with another goal from Alvin, everyone celebrated since we are through to regionals, but the game was not over, Craig scored another goal sealing the game.

Overall, we had a wonderful day and we progressed since we scored more goals then Mount Waverley. Everyone who participated did a great job and should be very proud of themselves. Thanks to Mr Duiveman, Jaiden D and Radin for coaching us.

 Year 8 Boys Soccer

1st game- Vermont SC VS Mount Waverley- 4-1 WIN

1st half we score 2 goals, 1st one by Jay V and Radin H. After a team talk the captain Jaiden D said a few words to give the team more confidence and Armaan S scored. After that, Mount Waverley get set on a counterattack and score a goal. The captain Jaiden D did not let the team put their heads down and got the team once again, motivated. Soon after, Sam W scores and then the referee blows the whistle for full time.

2nd game- Vermont SC VS Highvale SC- 1-0 LOSS

After putting pressure and defending, not one single goal has been scored by Vermont SC and Highvale SC in the first half. In the second half, Vermont SC defenders make a huge mistake and then we unfortunately conceded  1 goal. Vermont SC was eager to score goals, but the Highvale keeper wouldn’t let a goal in.

3rd game- Vermont SC VS Glen Waverley- 2-1 WIN

Finally, our very last game and Vermont do not want to go home with 1 out of 3 games won.  Jaiden D and Sam W were the scorers and we were all very happy.

I want to thank our coaches Finn M and Nahuel A, of course our team Managers Mr. Duiveman and Mr Quinn.

Stay tuned for the next sports update featuring the report from the senior boy’s state football grand final, senior girls state hockey, year 8 round robin and year 7 round robin.
