NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK

Happy National Science Week 2023.

Day 1 - KPS (Monday)

On Monday KSC kicked off with a Science Extravaganza at Korumburra Primary School. The Year 9 cohort made the short trip to the primary school armed with mini experiments to present to the Grade1 & 2’s as part of promoting Science Week to our community. Primary School students rotated from group-to-group, learning and experiencing some amazing SCIENCE! A fun way to begin a busy and AMAZING week of Science at KSC!

Well done Year 9!!

Day 2 at KSC (Tuesday)

Year 7 students, as part of a BIG week of Science activities, had a shakin’ great time learning butter making skills from Burra Foods Australia. Also some hygiene skills through a Glitterbugs session.

Thank you to Krystal and Steve for providing us with the ingredients and skills to make delicious butter, and a refresh on basic hygiene.

Day 3 - Dark Matters

Day 3 (Wednesday) of KSC Science Week involved Year 8 students travelling to Melbourne to Science Gallery Melbourne for an interactive tour of the “Dark Matters” exhibition. Then on to Gene Technology Access Centre to use their scientific inquiry skills to complete an escape room challenge and investigate the gut biome and how our health is entwined with it.

Day 4 at KSC (Thursday)

The Year 10’s are about to begin the Chemistry unit in Science. We had a visit from Tim (an ex-student of KSC), who explained the different types of pyrotechnic explosions and how he became a pyrotechnic expert. Students experienced a variety of chemical reactions in the form of low powered explosions. This allowed students to understand the concept of energy in an educationally captivating way!

A big thanks to Tim (and Chris) for taking the time to visit us. Science week has been a BLAST!

Day 5 at KSC (Friday)

Day 5 at KSC (Friday), the final day of our Science Week celebrations, involved our staff enjoying a #brainbreak and a Science Week treat at the Mad Scientist Morning Tea!

Staff enjoyed a science themed morning tea prepared by the Science domain staff (and some other generous staff). Thank you to those who contributed. It was a delicious way to spend the final day of National Science Week, and a thank you to all the staff who made Science week such a big success. Until next year................
