Celebrating Our Education Assistants

The role of Education Assistant is absolutely vital in the classrooms at St Xavier’s. Our inclusive community calls for strong teams throughout the school and our education assistants play a significant role in these teams.

Our education assistants work in collaboration with our teachers to positively impact and guide our students.  They work with individuals and with small targeted groups to help children achieve their specific learning goals. They can  also work beside teachers as scribes in a co-teaching situation.

The model of having an education assistant in every classroom at St Xavier’s is partially funded by the school. We believe so strongly in the power of a team looking after the diverse needs of a class and will continue to use this model.

Education assistants who work with students on a smaller and more personal scale, provide not only learning support, but emotional support as well. They also observe students throughout the day and are able to engage in meaningful discussions about a student’s work.

We very much value the work our education assistants do but also what they bring to the team. We are fortunate to have them at St Xavier’s.
