Foundation

The Foundation students enjoyed a trip to Melbourne Zoo. The children enjoyed observing the elephants, giraffes, tortoises, butterflies, seals, lemurs, meerkats and more! There was a lot of walking involved, and we were impressed by the stamina of the students throughout the day. We are going to finish the term by writing information reports about an animal we saw at the zoo. We’d like to thank the fantastic parents who supported the classes, Mrs Dell and Ms Kelly.

Year 1

As part of our Science unit, Dinosaurs and More, the Year 1 students made shields, incorporating features of dinosaurs such as spikes. First they drew their designs and listed the materials that would be needed. Then they made some amazing creations!

Year 5 News

Werribee Zoo Excursion

We're excited to share the incredible experience Year 5 had on their recent trip to Werribee Zoo! The sun was shining, the animals were out and about.

Roaming with the Animals

The day began with the students taking a leisurely stroll around the zoo, soaking up the marvelling at the diversity of animals. One of the absolute highlights of the day was getting to see the lion cubs up close! Their playful antics had everyone captivated.

Learning about Indigenous Traditions

Next on the agenda was a fascinating session that transported our students back in time to learn about Indigenous traditions. They discovered the significance of smelling gum leaves in an Indigenous ceremony that preceded meetings between different tribes. The calming effects of the gum leaves were particularly intriguing to our young learners. Additionally, they delved into the amazing adaptations of wallabies, gaining insights into how these incredible creatures have evolved to thrive in their environments.

Safari Adventure

After lunch in the African village houses, the adventure continued with a safari bus ride into the grassland area of the zoo. Our students were treated to the majestic sight of the World’s tallest giraffe, ostriches, antelope, bison, and the striking camouflage stripes of zebras. It was an awe-inspiring encounter with some of the world's most incredible creatures.

Up Close with Meerkats

The meerkats stole the show as students spent time observing their playful behaviour and social interactions.

Souvenirs and Gratitude

Before the day drew to a close, our students had the chance to visit the gift shop, where many chose to pick up a memento of their exciting day. The joy of selecting a special gift to remember their time at the zoo was evident on their faces.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to Amy and Ned, our wonderful parent helpers, for accompanying us on this adventure. Their support helped make the day run smoothly and allowed our students to have an enriching experience. In conclusion, the Year 5 trip to Werribee Zoo was a roaring success!

Immigration & Chinese Museum Excursion

On Wednesday the 30th of August the Year 6 Students headed off to the Immigration Museum and Chinese Museum.

While at the Immigration Museum we explored galleries that showed why people have migrated to Victoria, where they settled and how they started a new life here. It was interesting to see the different reasons why people migrated to Australia, and that sometimes it wasn’t because they wanted to.

At the Chinese Museum, we got to explore China Town and investigated life on the goldfields as a Chinese immigrant in the 1850s. Then we learnt about Chinese mythology and the symbolism behind dragons in Chinese culture. Did you know it’s bad luck to touch a sleeping dragon?

It was an interesting and fun day and we’re so excited to share our learning in our projects for Geography!

Book Week Parade

Thank you to all the parents and carers for your wonderful support with costumes and props for the parade. It was great to see so many of you attend to cheer on the children as they showed off their outfits. We appreciate the teachers’ efforts, too, especially our fabulous hosts: Mr Woollan and Miss Jones. Here’s a selection of photos from the day.
