Foundation Class

DAILY REVIEWS IN PREP

What are Daily Reviews?

Every morning, we start our Literacy lessons with a Daily Review. This is where the students practice, consolidate and learn to become automatic in their knowledge, skills and strategies from short term to long term memory. We begin by reviewing what was covered in the last few lessons so that recently acquired knowledge and skills are activated and those connections are reinforced. This has been a gamechanger in the Prep class.

Our Daily Reviews take about 15 minutes and it is where the students actively participate by using skills such as

Self‐verbalisation

Choral responses

Think Pair Share opportunities

Multiple opportunities for practice

We cover a large range of literacy areas in our Daily Reviews and it can be unlimited but some of the areas we include are

Phonological awareness (particularly isolating phonemes, short and long vowels)

Syllabification

Read and spell high frequency words to automaticity

Vocabulary

Phonics: short/long vowels, digraphs

Spelling, punctuation, grammar rules

Passage reading and comprehension strategies.

The Daily Review technique has made a great deal of difference to my students’ learning.

Daily review, Consolidation, Warm‐Up… whatever you call it, it’s a gamechanger in our classroom and we love it!
