Mathematics
CURRICULUM FOCUS
We are learning to divide numbers with remainders.
VOCABULARY
Division: the process of taking a whole item or a set of items and splitting, or dividing, them into equal groups.
Remainders: amount left over after dividing a number.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Ask your child to create some division word problems (number stories) which would involve an answer with a remainder. Ask them to include items around the house in their word problems.
For example: I have made 22 cupcakes for my family. There are 3 people in my family. If I equally share these cupcakes between my family, how many cupcakes will each person get and how many will be left over?
22 ÷ 3 = 7 r 1
