We are learning to identify the main idea in non-fiction texts. 


VOCABULARY

Main idea: Identifying the main idea helps us understand what a text is mostly about. The main idea is the most important point that the author wants us to know.

 

Non-fiction texts: A text where the content is real and based on truth, rather than made up or created from the imagination.

 

 


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to read, or listen to, a news story of their choice (newspaper or online: BTN, Squiz Kids podcast). 

 

Ask them to write down 3 key details (most important information in the text) from the news article. 

 

Have them record what the main idea is.
