HAVE YOUR SAY IN THE YOUTH COUNCIL SURVEY

Closing 29th September 2023

Are you aged between 12 – 24 years old? Live, work, study or play in the Narrabri Shire area?

The Youth Council invites you to “Speak Up” and complete this Survey which is targeted for young people to hear about what is important to you and help Narrabri Shire Youth Council develop its Youth Strategy.

The Strategy will guide Council’s work to support the development and wellbeing of the Shire’s young people aged between 12-24 years.

Council believes that by raising young people up, it ensures they are in great shape mentally, physically, and socially, positively impacting the Shire’s Community now, and into the future.

Previous engagement with the Shire’s Youth has identified the following themes:

Feeling safe - safe places that encourage cultural learning and strengthen connection within the community;

Feeling healthy - encourage participation in both mental and physical activities;

Sense of belonging - increase sense of belonging through assessable and affordable recreational opportunities; and

Skilled and ready – ensuring the future workforce is adapting to change and provide entry-level opportunities through education and skills training.

Resilience Building Camp

36 students from Stage 5 headed off this morning to Lake Burrendong Sport and Recreation Camp for the week. Being a ‘resilience and recovery’ camp, they will participate in various activities that focus on building resilience, physical activity, and connection. Today was a wet weather day so the students took part in indoor activities that practised communication, team-building and using initiative.

A fun filled week outdoors ahead! Thanks to our R/Principal, Ms Neil for securing this opportunity for us and to Ms Trevaskis, Ms Bray, Mr Malcolm and Ms Gavan for accompanying our students.

Wear It Purple Day

Recently we recognised 'Wear It Purple Day' with a visit from two of our local police officers who spoke with students about fostering supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for LGBTQIA+ young people. 'Wear It Purple Day began at Burwood Girls High School in 2010 and is now celebrated internationally. Officers provided students with a delicious morning tea of purple donuts and lollipops and stayed a while to answer questions and get to know students.
