Principal's Report
Tim Bernau | Principal
Dear Skye Families,
With the end of the school year in sight, it is a fitting time to pause and celebrate everything we have shared. From learning in classrooms and fun in the yard, to specialist programs, excursions, camps and a wide range of community events, it has been a rich and rewarding year. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who have given their time and energy. Your efforts, on excursions, in classrooms, on School Council and PTF, at camps, and in so many unseen ways, have greatly enriched our school.
I especially want to wish every family a safe, peaceful and enjoyable break, and a wonderful summer holiday. Students will return to school on Thursday 29 January.
This afternoon at Assembly, we had the pleasure of announcing our student leaders.
I want to recognise the large number of Year 5 students who nominated themselves for leadership roles. Their desire to serve and strengthen our school community truly embodies our core values of Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Relationships.
With so many high-quality applications, selecting our student leaders was not an easy task. Every applicant showed commendable strengths, and we are very proud of each one. In addition, we are fortunate to have further leadership pathways through our Play Leaders and Peacemakers programs, which received a great deal of interest from the Year 5 cohort. Students will have the chance to become involved in these initiatives early next year.
Congratulations to:
Thanks to the magnificent fundraising efforts of the Skye community, our new junior Playground is one step closer. We recently received the designs and have spent the last fortnight gaining feedback from the SRC and other student forums. We are hopeful that the Playground will be installed in the first half of next year as we work around other improvement projects at the school. For a sneak preview of the proposed design, click on the file link below:
I met with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and associated architects and builders, who advised of impending works at our school that will comprehensively improve accessibility across the site. As part of the Department's Planned Maintenance Program (PMP), our school has been allocated significant funding to rectify issues with a range of identified ramps.
Works are scheduled to commence in the January school holidays and continue until mid-March. While we are excited about the improvements this project will deliver, there will be some temporary inconvenience, with the area between the oval and the main building (Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms) fenced off during construction. We will work closely with the builders to minimise disruption and maintain normal school operations wherever possible.
Farewell
Taryn Clough
After 15 years at Skye Primary School, we bid farewell to Taryn Clough. Taryn began her career at Skye in just her second year of teaching and has taught a range of year levels across the school. Her positivity and ability to form relationships with students, staff and parents has been such an asset to our school. An ultimate professional who is always looking to improve her instructional craft, Taryn will be sorely missed by the Skye community. Taryn will be taking leave throughout 2026 to focus on family. We wish her all the very best.
Ash Salter
Ash departs Skye at the end of this year after teaching Year 4 and Year 1 in the last two years. Ash has secured a position at the Haileybury College campus that he attended as a child. We wish Ash all the best for next year.
Anisa Akkusoglu
Anisa departs Skye Primary School after two years teaching both Year 5 and Year 1. Anisa is moving to Botanic Ridge PS and we wish her all the best.
Welcome
We are excited to welcome Tim Azaris (Foundation A), Monique Evans (1A), Cyarni Klimek (1C) and Erika Heath (Intervention) to our school for 2026 and look forward to seeing the positive impact that they will have on our community.
As we prepare for 2026, some classes will temporarily relocate next week. Details have been communicated by the relevant class teachers. The classes that will be temporarily moving in Week 11 are: Foundation B, Foundation E,1A, 1B, 1C, 2A, 3B, 5A, 5B, 5/6C. Please see the map below for further details.
Get excited! We have a brand new canteen option beginning next year. TK Tuckshop will be bringing a range of tasty options that we will be trialling from Week 3 of Term 1 next year. Families will be able to book via the app as late as 8am on the day and the food will be delivered directly to the school and then taken to classrooms. Throughout the Term 1 trial, TK Tuckshop will be available on Thursdays only, replacing the previously available Subway delivery that the school has utilised for a number of years. More information will be communicated at the beginning of next year.

End-of-year reports will be available for parents on Sentral this afternoon/evening. These comprehensive documents provide an overview of your child's academic, social and emotional growth throughout the year. We encourage you to review these reports together, celebrating achievements and identifying areas for future growth.
Our final assembly will be held at 9:15am on Wednesday 17th December where we will again celebrate our graduating class of 2025. Our final student excellence awards and learning growth awards for the year will also be presented. Friday 19th December is the final day of the 2025 school year. School will finish at 1:30pm.
Thanks again for all your support this year. I look forward working with you to make 2026 even better.
Warm regards,
Tim
