Welcome to the last newsletter for the year and we all thank you for your support of Grade 6 and your children throughout the year. While we only have one week to go, it is the biggest week of the students' primary school life! The Big Day out is on Monday where we are geared up to have fun at Gumbuya World; Graduation is on Tuesday and our Final Assembly is on Wednesday an before we know it, it's the last day of Primary School on Friday. Then roll on Christmas and New Year!
Literacy
It's the tying up of loose ends with our Literacy where we will finish Spelling Mastery, complete our Memory Books and reflect on all that we have accomplished throughout the year. We have dramatically increased our knowledge on many different areas, including the First World War through the fantastic novel, War Horse. We learnt about compassion through the incredibly moving story, Wonder. Ancient Greece and Rome was next on the agenda and then our third novel was Nevermoor. It is without doubt that the students have evolved through the reading of these texts, they have increased their vocabulary and improved their ability to write many different genres. They are well equipped to confidently start secondary school and look forward to the challenges that will be presented to them.
Maths
We will wrap up our data and statistics investigations, and continue our 'fluency frenzy'. Students are working hard to master all of their multiplication facts or improve their recall speed. The times that the students are recording are rapidly decreasing. These automatic recall of times tables and addition and subtraction facts are the absolute bedrock for their maths as they move into secondary school. They are doing a great job! We might even hold a competition to find who is the fastest and most accurate with their recall and who has improved the most!
Wellbeing
We will reflect on our time at Skye Primary School and think about all of the friends that we have made and the relationships that we developed and what characteristics we have brought to them and what ones we admire and draw us towards others. This will be beneficial as they move into a whole new environment next year and the friendships that the students will make. Some of them might last a lifetime!
Thanks for reading and we wish you a Happy Christmas and a joyful New Year. Your children are a credit to you all and they have been a pleasure to teach!
