PE News

Dear Parents and Carers,
With this years 2025 Ball Games Day event fast approaching, below are some reminders that your children will need prior to the event. This event is a celebration of inclusivity, teamwork, and sportsmanship — with the focus on participation, encouragement, and having fun rather than winning.
Throughout Term 4, students have been practising a range of ball games and activities that develop important movement skills such as passing, catching, running, and cooperation. Students will be placed into mixed teams within their house colours, working together across eight different events designed to challenge and engage everyone.
Schedule for the Day:
- Grade 3 and 4 students: Walk to Herne Hill at 9:15am, events from 9:30am – 11:00am, then return to school for recess.
Grade 5 and 6 students: Depart Mano at recess time, events from 11:30am – 1:00pm, returning to school for lunch around 1:30pm.
Students are asked to wear their school sports uniform only, this includes comfortable running shoes and all other ‘Mano’ sport clothes that fit in with our school uniform policy. All ‘Mano’ students to either wear Green or White polo top. Please bring a drink bottle, hat, and plenty of energy and enthusiasm along with a BIG breakfast in the morning.
Regards,
Mr Hambrook
CRICKET BLAST FOR OUR MANO SUPERSTARS
Our Mano boys cricket team represented the school with pride at the Regional Cricket tournament last week. They competed fiercely against some of the strongest cricketing schools in the region, demonstrating outstanding teamwork, discipline, and resilience throughout the day. The boys should be extremely proud of their efforts and the way they represented Mano. Unfortunately not able to win any games, the team put up some big scores with some big hits, but have learnt from the experience with our bowling. An awesome experience all around and we thank the parents who went down to support Mr Beck and the team. We are super lucky at Mano to have such great helpers and support within our ‘Mano’ community! A super effort the team should all be proud of and add to the memories of a successful year.
STATE SOFTBALL ACHEIVEMENTS
This week our boys/mixed softball team competed at State level with Mr Urquhart up in Melbourne. Below is a brief summary of each of the games to highlight the excellent competitiveness our students showed against the best in our State.
Game 1 vs St Mary's Lancefield - In a close game, our fast start helped us to a 19-17 win. Game 2 vs Macclesfield - Another close game, coming away with a 17-14 win. Game 3 vs Viewbank PS - A tense game of high standard ended in a 17-17 draw. With the winner progressing to the State Final, a tie break was played. 3 batters for each team got to hit and the tie break also ended a tie! 3-3. As our game time was up, a draw was counted with Viewbank progressing to the final with a higher percentage. The next part might be a bit heart wrenching for the kids (and adults who attended) too. Viewbank PS who we drew with, then went on to to win the final comfortably, 19-10. But that is sport! The kids did their best and that is all we want and we were all super proud of them. Not just today, but over the course of the 4 rounds they progressed through and their hard work across the year.A huge thank you to the support of Belinda Davies today for scoring, families for sharing driving to events and coming to support. I know it is hard with work. Hopefully the kids have had a positive experience, not just today but across the year.
Thanks,
Will Urquhart
