Learning Outlook for Weeks 9 & 10

🧠 Maths

In Mathematics, students are exploring 2D and 3D shapes and using mathematical language to identify, classify and describe their features. They are investigating how 3D objects are composed of 2D shapes and matching different shapes to their corresponding nets. Students are identifying and drawing lines of symmetry and experimenting with rotational symmetry by testing and creating symmetrical designs. This learning is being applied to real-world examples and festive Christmas-themed contexts, where students explain how shape properties create balance, patterns and visual appeal.

📚 English

In English, students are revising key reading and writing skills as we move toward the end of the term. They are continuing to apply their knowledge of Latin roots to help understand unfamiliar vocabulary and revisiting long vowel sounds to strengthen their decoding and spelling accuracy. Students are also practising reading passages aloud with fluency, focusing on expression, pace and accuracy before responding to comprehension questions about what they have read. In writing, students are learning how commas are used in lists and applying this understanding in their own sentences. They are also working on publishing their writing, either digitally or on paper, to refine and present their final pieces for the term.

💬 SEL

In SEL, students are reflecting on their personal growth this year. They are learning to identify how they have changed academically, socially and emotionally, and are expressing these reflections in a written letter to their future Year 5 teachers. Students are structuring their letters with a greeting, body and closing, sharing their thoughts, experiences, and hopes as they prepare to transition into Year 5.

🌏Humanities

In Humanities, students are finalising their sustainable design projects. They are presenting their prototypes to others and clearly explaining the sustainable features included in their design. Students are reflecting on what they have learned throughout the unit, describing how their project links to sustainability, and identifying what they would do differently in future design tasks. In Week 10, students will also proudly present their work to students across the school as part of our Term 4 Sustainability Showcase.
