Seymour Puckapunyal Youth Partnership

Ventia has partnered with the Department of Defence at Puckapunyal for many years, delivering a wide range of essential services such as cleaning, accommodation, and sports and recreation support, contributing to the smooth operation of the base and the wellbeing of its personnel.

Through the Seymour Puckapunyal Youth Partnership, Central Ranges Local Learning and Employment Network (CRLLEN) in collaboration with Ventia proudly offer an Employment Pathway Scholarship to a student from Seymour College, Seymour Flexible Learning Centre, St Mary’s College, and/or GOTAFE. In further support of this initiative, it is also strengthening opportunities for young people across the region to live, learn and earn locally.

Ruby Eaton was successful in being awarded a Employment Pathways Scholarship for 2025. Congratulation Ruby!

Ruby has been on a Puckapunyal Ventia Base Tour, participated in mock interviews at GoTAFE, attended the Seymour Careers and Jobs Expo and the Army Careers Day. Last year Ruby did one year of Certificate II in Commercial Cookery at Assumption College, Kilmore and is currently doing the first year of a Certificate III in Hospitality as a school-based apprenticeship while working at Brewer's Table. She also plans to do Work Experience at Ventia in 2026 in an industrial kitchen. My aim is to work in hospitality after I finish school to become a chef and one day work on a cruise ship to travel the world.

Ready, Steady, Careers

As part of the program’s final module, students in 7B reflected on their learning and explored their long-term career aspirations. They consolidated their knowledge from previous sessions to develop a personal career vision and created informative posters to showcase their goals and the pathways they may choose to pursue.

Their investigations focused on the education requirements and personal attributes needed to manage the responsibilities of these roles. There were certainly some surprises along the way — especially when comparing salary ranges across different industries!

Students proudly presented their findings and displayed their posters, researching careers such as: • Electrician • Architect • AFL Player • Psychiatrist • Performing Arts

We extend our thanks to the team from Central Ranges LLEN for providing us with this opportunity.

As pioneers of our senior school program, these remarkable students have set a standard of excellence, resilience, and school spirit that will shape the legacy of our college for years to come.

Throughout their final year, our Year 12 students have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their studies. They navigated rigorous academic demands, balanced extracurricular commitments, and supported one another through every challenge. Their determination to grow, achieve, and excel has been inspiring to both staff and fellow students.

We have watched them mature into capable, confident young people who embody the values of our college. Their efforts, long study sessions, collaborative projects, exam preparation, participation in the community as well as leadership roles, have not gone unnoticed. Each student has contributed to building the foundations of what it means to be a Year 12 student here at St Mary’s College.

As a college community, we are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved. Their journey as our pioneer Year 12 class will forever hold a special place in our history, and we cannot wait to see the bright futures they will create beyond our grounds.
