PBL
At SFS, our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) school wide expectations are:
Respect,
Responsibility and
Kindness
This week in PBL we continued to focus on RESPONSIBILITY: Engage and Persevere with all tasks.
This is in response to some children who are starting to lose focus towards the end of the school year and are not engaging in learning in the Learning space.
We discussed with the children that the expectation is that we engage and persevere with tasks even if it is something we do not like or enjoy. The children understand that students will need to complete any work they do not complete in class as they have not been responsible for their learning.
We also reminded the children about what this looks like such as not wondering around the room or wasting time going to the lockers to look for things. While we only have a short amount of time at school this year, it is important that we stick to learning routines and expectations to keep school calm and orderly.
Here are some of our lucky PBL winners who have been demonstrating our school expected behaviours.
Action for Happiness Calendar
This month’s calendar is called “Do Good December”. This month, we are being encouraged to carry out small acts of kindness, sharing is caring. This ties in beautifully with the Church season of Advent where we get ready for the birth of Christ. Why not try some of these ideas on the calendar or as you open the Advent Calendar and eat a chocolate each day, encourage your kids to do the acts of kindness on the ‘Do Good’ December calendar.
SRC news
We had our last SRC meeting this week on Monday afternoon. The SRC will finish with a little treat of hot chips for afternoon tea to celebrate their achievements this semester. A big thank you to our Semester 2 SRC reps who have put together a summary of their reflections of being in the SRC this year.
What have we done this semester?
We made a short video for World Kindness day to teach other kids about how to make SFS kinder.
We have introduced some new lunchtime clubs to give students an opportunity to try something different at lunch time. We started a lunchtime Chess competition and a Book club.
We promoted the message of R U OK day and we wore coloured vests at lunchtime so other students who needed help could come and ask us for help.
We taught other kids the steps to asking someone if they are ok. They are ALEC: Ask, Listen, Encourage action and Check in.
We helped with the assembly for our special Multicultural day. We taught everyone how to say hello in different languages and we hosted the assembly.
We also promoted National week of action against bullying and violence and talked to the students about child safety and how to be safe at SFS.
Shiv: I like being in the SRC because you can put your ideas forward and watch them come to action. To be in the SRC I think you need to have good leadership skills and be responsible.
Janaki: I like being a part of the SRC because I get to help other people and share my ideas. I think to be in the SRC you need to show KINDNESS, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY, our school values.
Allegra: I like being in the SRC because I can help people if they ask for help. I think you need to be someone who shows respect and make good choices.
Tom: I like that I get a say in some decisions in the school. I think you need to show a commitment to the role of the SRC and be able to follow up with the actions to put things in place.
Ghezana: I like being in the SRC because we get to make other kids ideas come true and put their ideas forward. The SRC should be able to talk to others in front of the class to promote the ideas. You need to be good at communicating.
Pennelope: I liked being in the SRC when we got to wear the Coloured vests and help kids during R U OK week. I think to be in the SRC you need to be good at encouraging others and have a voice to speak up.
Oscar: I have good ideas to share and I have good questions and wonderings.
