Term 2 has continued to be a vibrant and rewarding time for our Performing Arts program, with multiple performances across Brisbane showcasing the talent, dedication, and spirit of our students and staff.
Held at the magnificent St Stephen’s Cathedral, this event delivered a stunning evening of choral and instrumental music. The Cathedral’s rich acoustics brought out the best in our ensembles, and all the boys and staff involved are to be warmly congratulated on their high standard of performance and professionalism.
On Monday, May 26, the Chamber Choir performed at the National Sorry Day commemoration hosted by the Teralba Park Stolen Generations Support Group Inc. This important event honours the Stolen Generations and their families. Once again, the Chamber Choir and accompanying staff represented the College with dignity and sensitivity, marking this as a significant and meaningful part of their annual performance calendar.
Big Band 1 took the stage at the Brisbane Jazz Club’s Youth Jazz Festival, delivering a dynamic and polished set. The adjudicator praised the students for their impressive skill and engaging performance. Additionally, Big Band 1, the String Quartet, and DJ Production students performed at the recent Head of College Tour, earning enthusiastic feedback from prospective families and adding a lively energy to the day.
Term 2 has kicked off energetically for students involved in the Audio Club and the Marist College Ashgrove DJ Crew. Our DJ students recently brought a vibrant atmosphere to the Futures Week Careers Expo, delivering an exciting and dynamic soundscape that elevated the afternoon experience for all attendees.
The Marist College Ashgrove Audio Club continues to thrive as a space for students in Years 7–12 to explore music production in a hands-on, real-world recording environment. Hosted in The Hive recording studio, students had an incredible opportunity in Week 4 to run a recording session with guest artist/band Teardrive (Baxter Melrose, 2022). Taking full control of the session, the students showcased impressive professionalism and technical skill as they helped shape pre-production for an upcoming Teardrive release.
Well done to all involved—your dedication and enthusiasm are setting a high bar for the remainder of 2025!Audio Club runs on Tuesday afternoons from 3:15–4:15 PM in the Music Centre, and all students are welcome. Students in Years 7–12 can also enrol in Music Production/DJ lessons through the College Instrumental Program. Please contact music@marash.qld.edu.au with any further questions.
