Mrs Anna Nasr

Prayers

We pray for the repose of the soul of Fr John Kilinko, a Marist Old Boy (1964-1972), who passed away last week. Fr John will be laid to rest this Friday at St Flannan’s, Zillmere. May Fr John rest in peace and all those who loved him be comforted.

We pray especially during Reconciliation Week for our First Nations brothers and sisters who continue to suffer racism and suffer from the trauma of being part of the stolen generation.

Community Masses

Please join us for Masses throughout this week: Monday 1st Break, Wednesday 8:00am and Friday 1st Break. This Wednesday, Foley House will be celebrating their House Mass on Wednesday morning at 8:00am. All are welcome.

Gospel Reflection

Gospel from 6th Sunday of Easter, 25th May. John 14:23-29 (JB)

Jesus said to his disciples:

'If anyone loves me he will keep my word,

and my Father will love him,

and we shall come to him

and make our home with him.

Those who do not love me do not keep my words.

And my word is not my own;

it is the word of the one who sent me.

I have said these things to you

while still with you;

but the Advocate, the Holy Spirit,

whom the Father will send in my name,

will teach you everything

and remind you of all I have said to you.

Peace I bequeath to you,

my own peace I give you,

a peace the world cannot give, this is my gift to you.

Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.

You heard me say:

I am going away, and shall return.

If you loved me you would have been glad to know that I am going to the Father,

for the Father is greater than I.

I have told you this now, before it happens,

so that when it does happen you may believe.'

Jesus gives his peace and the Father sends his Spirit. There is hope in the promise of his return, and hope for all humanity and all life to be reconciled to God. The scriptural themes of hope and reconciliation connects us to this week’s Reconciliation Week and this year’s theme “Bridging Now to Next”. Reconciliation Week follows Monday’s National Sorry Day, a day to pause and remember the injustices faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia. It marks the anniversary of the Bringing Them Home report, which shed light on the forced removal of Indigenous children from their families. This day prompts us to confront the past, acknowledge the pain inflicted, and fosters a spirit of healing and reconciliation. Reconciliation Week further emphasizes the importance of building respectful relationships and understanding between all Australians, promoting the value of Indigenous culture and history. It calls on each of us to play an active role in creating a harmonious society that honours diversity, respects human rights, and acknowledges our shared history.

And so we pray:

+ Dear Creator,

On this National Sorry Day, we come together to seek healing and understanding. We acknowledge the suffering that has been endured by our Indigenous brothers and sisters, and we ask for Your guidance as we strive for reconciliation. May our hearts be filled with compassion, and may we find the courage to listen and learn from the stories of the past. Help us to build bridges of respect and unity, fostering a future where all cultures are honoured and valued. Grant us the wisdom to commit to actions that promote justice and healing.

Mary our good mother – pray for us

St Marcellin Champagnat – pray for us

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop – pray for us

And let us always remember – to pray for one another

Amen.+

A Visit from Aunty Rhonda

At our Sunday night Boarders Mass, we were blessed to have Aunty Rhonda Collard-Spratt visit and share a reflection with our boarding students and staff. Aunty Rhonda talked about her experience of being part of the Stolen Generations and reminded the boys of how important it is to be kind. The cruelty of racism that continues today, and that people such as Aunty Rhonda unjustly experience, is a reminder of the work that we need to do in our communities and as a nation.

Year 10 RE Classes Masses

After welcoming Year 8 RE classes to Mass during Term 1, this term our Year 10 RE classes have been attending Mass. The theme of Creation and our Common Home has woven through the liturgy, inviting students to make the connection between our Catholic faith and our call to care for our earth and one another. The students have been wonderful in the way they have participated in the Masses.
