TERM 2

We want to welcome new members to our school community.  This week, Amelie joined 3/4S and next week we have Ainslie coming into Foundation and her brother Lachlan in Grade 2.  We welcome these families and look forward to seeing them at our events coming up.

State School Spectacular

Rehearsals are well underway for the State School Spectacular where 21 of our Grade 3-6 students will be joining nearly a 1000 other students in the mass choir.  There were two others schools at this rehearsal, but I tried very hard not to photograph them! The State School Spectacular will be filmed and televised later in the year, we will let you know the details so you can switch on to watch.  Here are a few snaps from this weeks' rehearsal:

Hong Kong visitors

Over the years we have had many visitors to our school from Hong Kong.  On Monday 23 June, we have twenty, Grade 5 and 6 students and their teachers, joining us for the morning. They are visiting Melbourne as part of their studies and are keen to meet other children, spend some time in the classrooms and share some in our activities.  We are looking to provide lunch for these students and teachers, information to our Grade 5/6 families coming home today.

Community Pantry

We are so pleased to see students collecting items from the trolley to take home.  Today we have some fresh rubbarb from Jonah's family, ready to be cooked up into a delicious dessert.  Please pop around and collect items, or leave fresh produce for others to take.

Playground Action Today

Check out the playground action today, a sunny winter's day outside.  Lots of soccer, football, downball, volleyball training, play in the sandpit, monkeybars and time with friends:

Foundation 2026 Tours

We continue to take Foundation 2026 tours and have a tour this coming Saturday morning at 9:30am.  If you have family or friends who would like to visit the school, please ask them to call the office, or go on our website, and book in.  If you have a child starting school in 2026 then please contact the office for enrolment information.  Enrolments close on Friday 25 July and offers will be sent out on Monday 28 July.

Student Reports

On Friday 27 June your child's Semester 1 report will go live on Compass.  This year we will not be printing out copies of reports and ask that parents download their child's report from Compass.  From 2025 there will be changes to the mathematics reporting, in line with changes the Department of Education have made to the curriculum.  Information about these changes will come as a separate Compass news item.

Parent / Teacher Interviews

Coming home today is the Compass sign up for Parent/Teacher interviews.  This year we have made a few adjustments to the way we run these interviews, the most important change being that the interviews are now just parents and teachers.  The opportunity for students to share and talk about their learning is through the Student-led Walkthroughs in March and September.  We would like every parent to attend these interviews so please take the time to book in through Compass.

Pyjama Day

Our Junior School Council students are planning and running a Pyjama Day on Friday 4 July.  This day will coincide with our Breakfast Club launch, so put on those winter pyjamas, wrap up in a cosy dressing gown and come along with your bowl, plate and cutlery for a breakfast together.

Encounter Program

Every year we open our classrooms to welcome to our school, international students who are on their summer holiday break.  On Monday 21 July, we have our visiting students and their families joining us for four weeks.  This year there are no international students joining our Foundation classroom.  Their visit is always a highlight of the school calendar year and provide our students with plenty of opportunity to practice our school values of being kind and respectful.  Part of the program also involves a buddy opportunity where our Mullum Primary students take on the role of being a 'buddy' for the four weeks, this involves actively engaging with their buddy, supporting them to settle in and feel welcome at our school.  If you think your child would like the opportunity to be a buddy this year, please talk to them and then send me an email expressing interest.

Zeena is starting on Monday!

We are so excited that Zeena, the dog-assisted therapy dog, will be starting with us next week on Monday.  Each Monday and Tuesday morning at 9:00-9:45, Zeena will be visiting classrooms, supporting students with activities like transitioning into the classroom, listening to them read.  We have sent out a school-wide notification providing parents with the option to have your child opt in/out of this whole-school support that Zeena is providing.  We apologise for the short notice but hope everyone gets a chance to read and sign before Monday next week.

PJ Day - Last Day of Term

If you've been feeling as cold as we have, then this is going to make your day!

The JSC are excited to announce that we will be holding another Winter PJ Day on the last day of term.

On Friday the 4th of July, students can come to school dressed in your cosiest and comfiest winter pyjamas!

Even though our PJs will be super warm, students will still need to bring something to wear over their PJs, like a dressing gown, oodie or school jacket.

School shoes MUST be worn to keep students safe going to and from school and while playing outside, but students can bring slippers to wear for when you’re inside your classroom.

We will also be raising money for the school, so if you can, please bring a gold coin donation!
