Ethan Alagich

Adelaide United's brightest were honoured recently at The Drive, and none shone brighter than Ethan Alagich (2021 old scholar), who was named the 2025 Aurelio Vidmar Medalist!

This moment was also steeped in family legacy, as Ethan follows in the footsteps of both his father, Richie and aunt, Dianne, making it a proud generational milestone for the Alagich name and Adelaide United. Congratulations, Ethan, for bringing consistency, leadership, and an incredible work ethic to the field. Well deserved!

Aida and Iris de Flart

Together, Aida and Iris competed in a major American Competition, The Open, with their South Australian Cheerleading Club, South Coast Elite. Not only did South Coast Elite claim 1st place, they were also crowned champions of the entire Level 2 cheerleading category!

Iris continued to shine on the world stage, placing 3rd and bringing home bronze for Australia in the first Youth All Girl Team to compete at this international level, an incredible achievement!

What a phenomenal accomplishment to both girls for their hard work, talent and dedication. What amazing experiences and memories created that will last a lifetime.

ANZAC Spirit School Prize:

A Vietnam Study Tour Recount

In November 2024, I had the privilege of being named a winner in the Premier’s ANZAC Spirit School Prize. I based my entry on the life and service of my great-grandfather, Corporal Robert Lovell, who served in the 2nd/1st Australian Machine Gun Battalion, A.I.F., during World War II. He saw action in Syria, Palestine, New Guinea and Borneo.

In the recent April school holidays, I travelled to Vietnam along with nineteen other passionate young historians. It was an experience I will never forget. The study tour included two weeks full of learning, growth, and hugely significant moments.

The trip was eye-opening, emotional, and memorable. Walking in the footsteps of both ANZAC and Vietnamese soldiers, visiting historic sites such as Nui Dat, Long Tan, and the Cu Chi tunnels, is something I’ll never forget. Having the chance to learn about the Vietnam War from the perspective of the Vietnamese people really broadened my understanding of the conflict and its long-lasting impacts.

On the cultural side, we were able to experience what daily life was like in Vietnam. We maneuvered through Ho Chi Minh City traffic and shopped for groceries at the Hoi An markets. Life there couldn’t be more different to here, and all the locals were so kind and welcoming.

I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity and honoured to have been part of something so meaningful. If you're in Year 9 or 10 and passionate about History, I strongly encourage you to consider taking part in this worthwhile competition.

It’s an experience that will stay with you forever.
