Literacy and Numeracy

Our Year One students have been exploring mathematics fluency!

Our Year 1 students have been very proud of their efforts in improving their fluency in mathematics. They have been exploring skip counting, breaking up numbers, ordering numbers and placing numbers on a number line. They are very proud of themselves! Keep it up.

  • I am getting faster at being able to count by 2s
  • I am having a go at counting by 7s
  • I never knew you could break up numbers in so many different ways
  • This used to be hard, but now I am soooooooo good at it.
  • I used to write some of my numbers backwards but I don't any more - and that's not even what I was practising!

    Daily Review in Literacy

The Daily Review is a regular part of the Literacy program at St James.  This gives students the opportunity to review prior learning and enables the transfer of knowledge from short term to long term memory. Through practice, memory is strengthened and forgetting is less likely to occur.  When visiting classrooms we see students engaged in their learning and participating fully in reviews to identify sounds, blend and spell words and show their understanding of spelling rules and patterns.
