Journalism

Course Description:

In this subject students will engage with contemporary media sources and explore a variety for journalistic writing styles. Promoting an understanding of form and opportunities for creativity, students will interpret and craft persuasive, investigative and informative responses. Emphasising communication skills, the course includes skill development in ICT, creating Podcasts and considering the stylistic implications of formatting and print media. Journalism will also support students in developing their written expression - particularly regarding appropriate language choices for specific audiences and purposes.

 

Journalism’ will provide students with an opportunity to write about relevant matters that interest them, as well as supporting the development of key skills necessary for senior English courses (including VCE and VM).

 

Assessment:

  • Researching and creating an informative report
  • Developing a persuasive opinion piece or Editorial
  • Conducting an interview of a ‘significant person’ and producing a Podcast
