STAGE 2 EXCURSION - KAMAY NATIONAL PARK

On the 19th of June, Stage 2 went to Kamay Botany Bay National Park in Kurnell. The bus ride was roughly one hour, but it was worth the wait! The park was full of birds like kookaburras and rainbow lorikeets and we were lucky that we were able to enjoy the day in the sunshine.

Our first activity was walking along the coast of Stingray Bay while Ranger Cam pointed out important landmarks like pillars representing important people on the Endeavour, statues and bridges. Everyone learnt so much with a huge smile on their faces.

Our second activity was becoming a botanist and sketching things like rocks, water, and much more. Then we moved to a different spot and drew different plants and trees which we were able to name to whatever our hearts desired!

Our third activity was walking around the bush while Ranger Cam told us about some Australian plants such as the Cabbage Palm Tree and the Red Gumtree. We learnt that the Red Gumtree is much colder than other plants because it is smoother than other trees.

The last activity we completed was making gunyahs, which look like small teepee tents. The Indigenous people lived in gunyahs which provided them with shelter and warmth. We had so much fun while making them!

Kamay Botany Bay National Park was so much fun and we learnt so much about the arrival of the British and indigenous perspective. We can’t wait to go back there again soon!

SCS CHOIR EISTEDDFOD

St Aidan's Choir recently competed successfully in the SCS Eisteddfod on Wednesday 11 June. They were awarded the only Highly Commended from a group of ten choirs. The choir was complimented on a lovely song, a strong beginning, clear diction and watching the conductor like a hawk!

We are very proud of this achievement and the commitment of the choir members and their families in getting them to choir each week.

KINDER DESIGN AND MAKE HABITATS

Kindergarten students have been busy learning about living things and what living things need to survive this term. The students chose an animal and created a habitat using recyclable materials. Here are some of their creative habitats that were made.

STAGE 2 STEM GROUP WELCOMES A BRIDGE ENGINEER FOR EXPERT ADVICE!

This week, our STEM group had the exciting opportunity to learn from a real-world expert when Emily Gerrard, a bridge engineer, visited us to support students in their bridge-building project. As part of their design-and-make challenge, the students were testing their bridge models.

Emily shared valuable insights on structural strength, materials, and real-life design considerations. She provided constructive advice on how students could improve their designs to achieve greater stability and load-bearing capacity.

It was an inspiring and informative session, bringing engineering to life and showing how classroom learning connects to real-world problem solving.

We thank Emily for her time and expertise!

Warm regards,
