Dear Parents,
During the recent conference I attended, Derek Wenmoth was one of the guest speakers. Wenmoth is known for his expertise in systems thinking and leadership in education, emphasising the need for long-term strategies to prepare young people for an uncertain future. His work often explores how educators can foster hope and adaptability through innovative learning environments and curriculum structures.
Wenmoth spoke of our leading question to our students should be 'Who do you want to be?' A Different Way of Thinking for Our Students:
We need to encourage our students to think beyond job titles and career aspirations. Instead of asking, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" we ask, "Who do you want to be?" This question shifts the focus from professions and achievements to character, values, and purpose. We want our students to dream not just about their future careers, but about the kind of person they want to become, someone who is kind, creative, resilient, and thoughtful.
It’s not about how clever you are, but how you are clever. Every student has their own unique strengths, talents, and ways of thinking. Whether it’s solving problems in new ways, showing empathy to others, or bringing joy through art or storytelling, each child has something special to offer.
We also need to ask our students, “What do you want to be remembered for?” This encourages them to think about their legacy, not in grand terms, but in the impact they have on those around them. Do they want to be remembered as someone who always helped others? As someone who made people smile? As a leader, a friend, or an innovator?
By encouraging this way of thinking, we can help our students build a strong foundation of self-awareness, confidence, and purpose. It’s not just about what they will do in life, but who they will become. Let us continue to nurture their curiosity, creativity, and kindness as they grow. After all, the world needs more compassionate thinkers and dreamers!
So together, as teachers and parents in partnership......
Take care of our children
Take care of what they hear
Take care of what they see
Take care of what they feel
For how the children grow
So will be the shape of
Australia Our Future

It is with mixed emotions that we share the news that Mr Brett and Mr McGrath will be finishing up at the end of this term. While this decision was incredibly difficult for them both, they have made the heartfelt choice to return to Ireland to be closer to their family.
Mr Brett and Mr McGrath have both loved their time in Australia, and especially the past 18 months as part of the St Aidan’s Catholic Primary School community. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to our students have been truly appreciated, and they will be greatly missed by staff, students, and families.
While we are saddened by their departure, we wholeheartedly support their decision as family always comes first. We are grateful for the positive impact they have had on our school and the Year 5 and 6 students, and we wish both Mr Brett and Mr McGrath all the very best as they embark on their new chapter back home in Ireland.
We are delighted that Mrs Green will be teaching Year 5 from the beginning of Term 3 on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and we welcome back Miss Trainor who will be teaching Year 5 on a Thursday and Friday.
We welcome Mrs Waldron who is returning to work after being on maternity leave. She is an experienced Primary School teacher with a Masters Degree in Special Education and has been teaching for 16 years. Her most recent role was at Kambala, Rosebay. Mrs Waldron will teach Year 6 on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from the beginning of Term 3.
Miss Phillips has been at St Aidan’s over the past few years as the K-6 Dance Teacher and then most recently as a casual teacher. She will teach Year 6 on a Thursday and Friday from the beginning of Term 3. During Term 3, Miss Phillips will also be teaching Year 6 on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with Mrs Waldron for a smooth transition.
Please join us in welcoming the new members to our St Aidan's teaching team. Their combined expertise, enthusiasm, and dedication to student success make them a great addition to our school community.!
May this year be one of GOODNESS, TRUTH and BEAUTY.
Take care and God Bless.
Kind regards,
Rachel Baker
