This year’s National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) was held on Wednesday 21st May. It is an annual event co-ordinated by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) uniting millions of readers across the country to enjoy ‘The Truck Cat’ at 12 noon on the same day across Australia. Bimbadeen was one of 16,632
locations that shared a reading of this year’s selected story ‘The Truck Cat’. Elsewhere in this newsletter you will find an article from our Year 3 cohort, highlighting their drawing response skills of the cat in the story.
Issue 4 brochures were distributed this week. Closing date for orders will be Friday 13th June.
Many families who place an order in Issue 3 will have received a $5 promo code to spend this issue.
We expect that orders will be received and distributed before the end of term.
The Premiers’ Reading Challenge begins on the first Monday in March each year and ends on the first Friday in September, i.e. 5/9/2025, (Term 3, Week 7).
The Challenge encourages children and students to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online and since the Challenge first began in 2005, more than 4.5 million students have read over 63 million books.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
This year, the Challenge is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the theme ‘20 years of Words and Wonder’ and a year of special activities. Follow the link for more details https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge, or follow Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge on Facebook. There you can view the booklist, enter books into your child’s reading record and find more information about the VPRC.
All students have been sent home login their details (if you’re not sure, check inside the front cover of their reading diaries).
If you’d like to know anything further about the Challenge, our school’s Challenge coordinator, Tracey Johansen will be happy to answer any questions.
Happy reading!
It’s just over three weeks until we’ll be welcoming this year’s visiting author. Adam Wallace will be visiting our school over 2 days – Tuesday 24th June (Years 1,2,4 & 6) & Thursday 26th June (Years Foundation, 3 & 5). Thank you to all families who have already paid and returned their incursion notice – due date is 10th June.
In the coming weeks teachers will share some of Adam’s books during class and library times in the lead up to this event. Adam tells me he’s super excited to be visiting us again and I know he’s got special news to share with us all!
Till next time, happy reading everyone!!
