Open Night

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent Open Night. The evening began with an Information Session for our 2026 Foundation families, offering a warm welcome and a glimpse into life at HEPS. The Book Fair was buzzing all night, the cake stall was a crowd-pleaser, and classrooms were filled with engaging and hands-on activities. A standout moment was the impressive performances by our choir and instrumental groups—what amazing talent we have at HEPS! We hope you all had a fantastic time and enjoyed being part of our vibrant school community.

Focusing on the Why instead of the How

Following our recent professional development session with educational expert Simon Brooks, one of the most powerful messages that emerged was the importance of focusing on the why of learning, not just the how.

For example, while it’s essential that students learn their times tables (how), it’s even more critical that they understand when and why to use that knowledge in real-world contexts. This deeper understanding helps build flexible thinkers who can apply what they know in meaningful ways.

We invite you, as parents and caregivers, to be part of this shift. Whether you're reading with your child at home or helping with their maths homework, try asking questions that explore the why behind what they're doing. Encouraging these conversations nurtures curiosity and supports the development of confident, thoughtful problem-solvers.

Together, as a community of learners, we can help our young people grow into the innovative thinkers and compassionate citizens the world needs.

Enrolments Foundation 2026

A reminder that it is time for families to start thinking about enrolling their children in Foundation for the 2026 school year. We are offering school tours for prospective 2026 Foundation parents on Monday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. We warmly welcome both new and existing families to come and explore our school. A quick guide to the enrolment process is available on our website:

Education Support Staff - Thank you

A few weeks ago, we celebrated the work our wonderful Education Support (ES) staff do at HEPS. Education Support Day is a day to honour and recognise the extraordinary contribution Education Support staff make to education. We thank our ES staff for all that they do in classrooms, in the office, in the sickbay, in the garden and supporting our students with additional needs. Our school wouldn’t run as smoothly as it does without the support of everyone of our ES staff members - so to the HEPS ES team we say THANKYOU!

National Sorry Day & National Reconciliation Week

National Sorry Day (26 May) acknowledges the harm caused by the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families. National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June, with this year’s theme, "Bridging Now to Next," encouraging all Australians to reflect on the past while working together toward a better future. Over the next few weeks, HEPS students will participate in a range of activities related to this topic. For more information, please see link  https://www.reconciliation.org.au/our-work/national-reconciliation-week/

Veggie Garden - Level 3

Our Level 3 students are actively using the veggie garden as part of our sustainability program. They’ve begun planting this season’s crops, which will eventually be cooked as part of classroom activities or even sold to the community, helping students understand the full cycle of sustainable food production.

Working Bee - Save the Date Sunday 22nd June 9:00am-12:00pm

Our second Working Bee for 2025 will take place on Sunday 22nd June from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The main focus of this Working Bee will be cleaning the school windows and exterior walls. We'll also spend some time in the veggie garden and carry out a general tidy-up of the school grounds.

If possible, please bring along the following items: buckets, squeegees, window cleaning solution, long-handled brushes or brooms, sponges, cloths, two-step ladders and gloves.  A BBQ will be provided for all volunteers at the end of the morning. All parents, children, and friends are warmly invited to attend.
