Sustainability

Foundation

Foundation students have been exploring the changes that occur during Autumn and how the seasons affect plants, animals, and people. They have engaged in nature walks and observations to notice seasonal changes in their local environment.

Level 1

Level 1 students have been learning about freshwater ecosystems, investigating the plants and animals that live in them and how they depend on clean water to survive. They’ve explored how human actions can help or harm these important habitats.

Level 2

Level 2 students have been conducting hands-on experiments to understand producers, including how plants grow and make their own food. They’ve investigated plant parts, seed dispersal, germination, and photosynthesis.

Level 3

Level 3 students have been working in the kitchen garden, learning how to grow their own food from seed to harvest. They’ve been caring for plants, planting in seed trays, and observing how plants grow over time.

Level 4

Level 4 students have been learning about natural resources and the impacts of mining. They’ve explored where materials come from, how they are used, and the environmental consequences of resource extraction.

Level 5

Level 5 students have been investigating different types of natural disasters—such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and bushfires—and their impacts on people, places, and the environment. They’ve also learned about how communities prepare for and respond to these events.

Level 6

Level 6 students have been using the sustainable design process to create solutions for real-world environmental problems. They’ve researched issues, analysed existing products, and started designing their own innovations to support responsible production and consumption.
