Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,
*Don't forget Monday is the King's Birthday Public Holiday and school will be closed*
Year 2 HPS Posters
The Year 2 students have designed fabulous posters that demonstrate what they believe makes Heidelberg Primary School the best! It was impressive to see the things they value and appreciate, including being a welcoming place with many different spaces for everyone to feel safe in and enjoy with friends.
I will certainly be highlighting these posters to prospective families when I am taking tours around our wonderful school.
Excellence In Every Classroom
On June 3 and 4, myself and our Assistant Principals, Helen and Monique, participated in the 2025 Government Schools Principals Conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year's theme, Excellence in Every Classroom, resonated deeply with our ongoing commitment to fostering high-quality education for all students. The conference provided powerful insights into the state-wide priorities for curriculum, pedagogy, and student wellbeing.
A highlight was the keynote address by Dr. Sonja Hood AM, CEO of the Scanlon Foundation. Creating a sense of community and connection is front of mind for all of Dr Sonja Hood AM’s endeavours. Along with being the chief executive of the Scanlon Foundation, and previously chief executive of Community Hubs Australia – which aims to build social cohesion in Australia for those with diverse backgrounds, she is also the president of the North Melbourne Football Club, and has held numerous other roles within it, including general manager of community engagement.
For her work, Dr Sonja Hood AM was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the community through social welfare organisations, and to sports administration.
With over 30 years of experience in public policy and community development, Dr. Hood emphasised the importance of leadership in creating inclusive and cohesive communities. Her insights into building strong, connected communities align strongly with our school values of Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Compassion as well as the vision and direction we are taking to focus on creating an inclusive culture by working together as a community.
The conference also featured workshops and sessions focusing on evidence-informed practices and collaborative leadership. These sessions provided us as leaders with valuable strategies to enhance teaching and learning across the school.
We are excited and energised to continue our journey of excellence, drawing inspiration from the conference to implement innovative practices that support every student's growth and success.
