We encourage everyone to explore the work on display from both our middle and senior school students, regardless of which year levels your children are in. We look forward to seeing you there!
Last week the 5/6's went to Ballam Park and Jubilee Park to play Soccer and Netball, our school is in division 2. In netball the girls came 1st and in soccer division 2 the boys and girls came in 8th.
In soccer and netball we played against a range of schools, all the teams had lots of fun. The soccer teams won 3 games. In the end the netball team got a plaque after many years.
My favourite thing was when we got a goal and came in 8th, because 8th is better than nothing.😁
Two weeks ago, both 5/6 classes attended the Melbourne Zoo we had a fun time observing the animals while they were doing their daily activities. We also had a great time while learning about the animals and what they do their environment, and we shared what we knew with the instructors of our activities.
First off, we had an activity session in the Sea Life area, we enjoyed watching the sea animals (mainly the seals) catch their food and harmonise with their habitat. My favourite seal, Bella, was playful and liked attention.
After the seals, we went to an indoor activity that required us to dress up a group member. It was very fun to see the types of costumes that others created, and especially fun to dress up our own member.
After the activity session, we went to look at the other animals at the zoo, we learned about them and how they adapt to their environments using the posters and signs put up near their enclosures. It was great to get close to animals that we’d usually only see on television.
My favourite enclosure was the butterfly enclosure, we got to feel the butterflies land on us, observe their beautiful nature, and look at their beautiful habitat. It was amazing for me.
We are doing animal adaptation in inquiry and we all had to roll a dies to make an animal. I rolled spider eyes, wing and talons, I also got giraffe ears and lastly a hard shell. That was everything that I got when l rolled. Some students got crazy animal parts we also had to draw our animals and say if there body parts were behavioural, structural or physiological. We also need to make the habitat and draw the habitat, we are going to put all our inquiry work on our showcase.
For the last week or two, our class has been doing writing projects that will prepare us for camp at Sovereign Hill. In writing, we researched about life in the early 1850’s during the Ballarat Gold rush, and what it was like for different people during the journey. We then made a character profile for us to use at camp, which talks about our history in Ireland (our class’ home country), our journey to Australia and what we would like to learn about life during the gold rush.
