Scanning Electron Microscope
The Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) has partnered with Inspire STEM Education to introduce a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to rural schools. Mount Beauty Secondary College were lucky enough to borrow the SEM for two weeks.
Students were shown how to use the SEM and view magnified images of samples. Samples included wattle, moss and a snake skin.
GTAC provides an innovative and collaborative educational environment in which Victorian students and educators access life science expertise through engagement with practicing scientists, contemporary knowledge and technology.
Pictured below are some Year 7 students with the Microscope, and some of the images they were able to create.
Hume Region Cross Country
Thirteen of our fastest cross-country runners represented Mount Beauty Secondary College last week. The Regional Championship was held at Benalla, with beautiful, stable weather, a fast pace across all age groups and our students doing their best. The way in which our athletes conducted themselves is something to be proud of; they showed grit, encouraged each other and celebrated their personal success.
Drama Production
Zap! Bam! Pow!! The class of DRO3A shone in the recent production conducted at Jessie Hollonds Studios. Preparation for this performance included examining what is a hero, discovering the background to the faces of Australian Banknotes and reflecting on recipients of the Australian of the Year award. Students collaborated to create Notable Australian monologues which formed part of this ensemble production. After shaking out some nerves and some hurried last-minute practices, there were twenty scenes in the 30 minute play, showcasing our talented performers. Backstage was at times hectic – but with their dedication and attention during rehearsals, the students put on an impressive show. Well done to all. And a special shout out to Le-Anne McCraw, Abramo Peghini, Sharon Lidden, Jen Farrington, and Ita Rose for all the help behind the scenes.
