College Principal Report

As we close out another busy and rewarding semester, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible efforts, energy, and growth we’ve witnessed across both campuses of Keysborough College. Whether it’s been in classrooms, on stage, on the sporting field, or in the community, our students and staff have continued to exemplify our core values of Respect, Excellence and Diversity (RED) in meaningful and inspiring ways.
There’s a special kind of energy that builds in a school when students feel proud of their learning and connected to their peers. Across this semester, I’ve seen a school community that is not only growing academically but is beginning to thrive socially and emotionally. From junior students stepping up in leadership roles to seniors mentoring others and preparing for life beyond school, it’s clear that our young people are becoming the kind of thoughtful, capable contributors the world needs.
One of the defining characteristics of Keysborough College is our diversity. We are proudly one of the most culturally diverse schools in Victoria, and this is not just something we acknowledge, it is something we celebrate and nurture every day. Our classrooms are rich with different perspectives, and our playgrounds are filled with friendships that cross backgrounds, beliefs, and languages. This harmony isn’t accidental and it’s built carefully by staff who set the tone and students who embody our values with pride.
I’m proud of the progress we’ve made this semester in our teaching and learning practices. Our college-wide implementation of a consistent Teaching and Learning Model has recently been launched and will promote stronger student engagement and clarity around high-impact learning. Walkthroughs and learning walks will come in term 3, to highlight students actively participating in meaningful lessons and teachers working collaboratively to raise the bar in every classroom. I’d also like to acknowledge the contributions of our Education Support staff who work across both campuses in vital roles supporting inclusion, wellbeing, and learning continuity.
Parent and community engagement has remained a key focus, with school council members, local organisations and families continuing to support our work. Whether it's through volunteering, attending school events, or providing feedback, your involvement makes a real difference in helping our students succeed.
Looking ahead, we will continue to focus on strengthening our sense of belonging, expanding co-curricular opportunities, and supporting every student to reach their personal best. I'm particularly excited by the launch of our own Hands On Learning program, supporting students in Years 7 and 8 across both campuses and our partnership with Community College Gippsland, which will grow to provide more VET opportunities for our students. We know that academic success and personal growth go hand in hand, and we are committed to providing the structures, relationships and supports to ensure every student feels seen, safe and supported.
Finally, thank you to our staff; teachers, support staff, and leaders who go above and beyond every day. Your commitment to our students and our college vision is deeply appreciated. To our families, thank you for your continued trust and partnership. And to our students, thank you for a rewarding first semester. I look forward to your continued growth and efforts in term 3.
Wishing everyone a safe, restful, and well-deserved break.
Mr Aaron Sykes
