On Monday 30th June, students are invited to come to school wearing green as we spend time cleaning up areas of the school grounds. There will be fun scavenger hunts along the way while we clean. No gold donation is needed - just some hands to help keep our school grounds clean and rubbish free!

Excursion to Mont De Lancey

We had so much fun on our excursions to Mont De Lancey – even if it was cold, windy and wet! Thank you again to our fabulous parent helpers and to everyone who helped dress students in our olden day clothing. Here are some photos from the day and highlights from the students.

MS Readathon

This year, Vermont Primary School will be participating in the MS Readathon, a fundraiser that has been supporting people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for 45 years. The MS Readathon combines the joy of reading with the mission of making a difference in the lives of those affected by MS. The event runs throughout the month of August.

If you would like your child to participate in the MS Readathon and represent Vermont Primary School, you can register by following these steps:

  1. Visit the Readathon website: https://www.msreadathon.org.au/join/vermontprimaryschool
  2. Select ‘Register’
  3. Click ‘My children to read’
  4. Fill in the contact details of a parent/guardian
  5. Enter your child’s details and add Vermont Primary School
  6. Follow the prompts until registration is complete

Please remember not to include your child’s surname. Only their first name, or first name and surname initial, and their grade are required (e.g., Jimmy S 2JH).

If you have any questions regarding this year’s MS Readathon, please feel free to contact:

Science Week

We loved participating in Science Week this week. We took part in three science and STEM based activities. We made oobleck, an electrical circuit and tried The Great Spaghetti Challenge (building a tower to hold a marshmallow)!

What’s On in the Classroom?

Literacy

We have been practicing editing our work and are now thinking about presentation. We will try typing up our stories, adding meaningful pictures and matching titles. Over the past few weeks, we have also been having fun writing creatively using prompts from stories we have read or short videos.

Here are some examples from our writing:

Mathematics

In the classroom, we are continuing to focus on Place Value and Fractions. We are focusing on three digit numbers – what do they look like in blocks?, correctly saying the number in words and renaming numbers using our place value knowledge. We are also learning about halves, quarters, thirds and eighths and applying this knowledge to help break up and share shapes.

Here is some of the amazing maths we have been doing over the past fortnight.

Inquiry

Upcoming Incursion

On Wednesday 2nd July, we have a History Incursion! The payment and consent form are now available on Compass.

Next term, we will be learning about simple machines and forces. We will be building and learning about simple machines such as levers, ramps and pulleys.

Show and Tell

Week 10 and 11

Bring an old item from the past.

The first Show and Tell topic will be about students' holidays. The timetable will be emailed out to each class from your child's teacher.
