What a wonderful two weeks the Foundation students have had! Last week we had a visit from a Police Officer and this week we welcomed the Fire Brigade. This week was also Science Week and the Foundation students had so much fun experimenting with bubbles! They created bubble pictures, made bubble solutions and we even blew bubbles inside bubbles! It was also Planning Week, where the Foundation teachers were busy preparing exciting learning experiences for next term.
Monday 30th June – Whole School Assembly and GO GREEN DAY (wear something green)
Tuesday 1st July: Occupations Dress up day
Wednesday 2nd July: Fire Brigade Visit 2
Thursday 3rd July: Semester One reports available on Compass
Friday 4th July – Last Day of Term 2 - 2.30pm dismissal
This week we were so lucky to have Leading Senior Constable Newport from Victoria Police visit the Foundation students. We learned about the different roles the police have and what we can do in an emergency. She even put her police car siren on for us!
On Wednesday 25th June, we were excited to welcome the Firefighters into our school. We loved having them come in and teach us about fire safety. We got to ask lots of questions and see their special uniforms. They even gave us some homework! We would love families to talk about a safe meeting place near their homes and what to do in an emergency. They also reminded us to check that we have working smoke alarms. Next week, the firefighters are coming back and we will get to go on their truck and see how the hose works.
On Monday 30th June, students are invited to come to school wearing something GREEN as we spend time making our school community cleaner, greener and more beautiful! There will be a fun scavenger hunt along the way while we clean. No gold donation is needed - just some hands to help keep our school grounds clean and rubbish free!
Inquiry: Complete our ‘All About Me’ books and share them with our class.
Reading: RWI Literacy Groups
Writing: Write about a special place using emotion and writing about something they are looking forward to doing in the holidays.
Maths: Location (position of things) and Patterns
Next term, we are celebrating 100 Days of School! To celebrate, we will be doing lots of themed activities at school and doing a dress up day. This year, we will dress up in bright coloured clothing to celebrate being 100 Days Brighter! We will send out further information in the first week back at school.
This year, Vermont Primary School will be participating in the MS Readathon, a fundraiser that has been supporting people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for 45 years. The MS Readathon combines the joy of reading with the mission of making a difference in the lives of those affected by MS. The event runs throughout the month of August.
If you would like your child to participate in the MS Readathon and represent Vermont Primary School, you can register by following these steps:
Please remember not to include your child’s surname. Only their first name, or first name and surname initial, and their grade are required (e.g., Jimmy S 1NL).
If you have any questions regarding this year’s MS Readathon, please feel free to contact:

As this is our final newsletter for Term 2, we want to thank you for your continued support and wish all families a safe and restful break. We will see you all back in Term 3 on Monday, 21st July.
Over the course of the last few weeks, we’ve noticed an increasing number of take-home reader books being misplaced. Once your child has finished reading, please ensure the book is placed straight back into their reader cover folder and blue satchel — think of it as the book’s home. These books are part of structured sets and unfortunately cannot be replaced or purchased individually. We thank you for your cooperation and continued support in helping us care for these valuable resources.
We've noticed that many children are still feeling hungry after finishing their lunches and snacks. Please check in with your child about how much food they're bringing. A little extra in their lunchbox can go a long way in keeping their growing bodies fuelled for learning and play throughout the day!
Here are a few snapshots of our learning over the past few weeks.
