Grade Prep’s have completed their gorgeous Frida Dolls and have now moved onto a guided drawing of Frida Kahlo.

They enjoyed listening carefully to the steps about shape and position. We will be finishing these off next week and begin working on some ideas for our ‘Crazy Camel’ Fundraiser. Stay tuned for more information about this annual fundraiser for our school.

Grade 1’s Our amazing and colourful Frida Dolls are now complete! We used many decorated layers of patty pans for her skirt which resemble Frida’s colourful style and Mexican heritage. Over the next few weeks, we will begin working on some ideas for our ‘Crazy Camel’ Fundraiser. Stay tuned for more information about this annual fundraiser for our school.

Grade 2’s The Grade 2’s have almost completed their guided drawings of ‘still life’ fruit bowls. Next week we will try to sketch some real ‘still life’ arrangements I will have placed around the art room. The comparison of the two pieces will make for an interesting topic of discussion. Over the next few weeks, we will begin working on some ideas for our ‘Crazy Camel’ Fundraiser. Stay tuned for more information about this annual fundraiser for our school.

Grade 3/4’s have completed their watercolour self-portraits this week. I’m very impressed with their self-portraiture skills and use of the watercolour pencils. Some of these are on display in the office foyer. Student’s work can also be viewed using their Google Classroom app where they have been building a Visual Art Digital Portfolio. Over the next few weeks, we will begin working on some ideas for our ‘Crazy Camel’ Fundraiser. Stay tuned for more information about this annual fundraiser for our school.

The Grade 5/6’s mono chromatic self-portraits are finished! This was a huge component of our term 2 curriculum and some of these are on display in the office foyer The detail included is so intricate and the students have really tried hard to incorporate shade and contrast using a monochromatic theme. Student’s work can also be viewed using their Google Classroom app where they have been building a Visual Art Digital Portfolio. You can view it on your child’s Ipad. Over the next few weeks, we will begin looking at the form of the body and how to draw movement followed by sketching  some ideas for our ‘Crazy Camel’ Fundraiser.

Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.

Performimg Arts

The Curriculum Focus in Performing Arts

Year 1: Students have been learning to play songs together on both the untuned instruments and keyboard. They have learnt a song about an alligator and will learn a song about a donkey called “Tingalayo.”

Year 2: Students are continuing to learn songs based around a C major scale and the solfege method. They have played a song called “I have a little snowman” and “Smiling Monsters.” They have also been learning words in the Italian language that relate to tempo e.g. ritardando, a tempo and accelerando.

Grade 3/4 – Students have been learning how to play major and minor chords on the keyboard and marimbas. They have started learning how to play the songs “Songbird” and “Pay me my money down” using G major, E minor and D major chords.

Grade 5/6 – Students have been listening to songs with messages and have started a song writing activity where they select and write about a topic that they know about or that interests them that has a message. There have been some great topics selected such as friendship, being yourself, holidays, staying humble, resilience.
